Minor Ladies Football..
Minor Ladies finish their season in style!
Our minor ladies football team finished up their 2018 season with an impressive victory against Fermoy last Friday night under lights on an immaculate Kildorrery pitch. This was a special night for our two Kildorrery imports, Aine Keating and Sally Mc Carthy and their families and friends. Both girls played immense parts in this victory. We were very slow to start and allowed Fermoy to race into an early lead but once we realised we were in a game, we began to play with confidence and quickly overtook Fermoy to go into the lead and didn`t relinquish it for the remainder of the game. A slight positional adjustment in our defence had an immediate impact on our performance and we began to play with more confidence and cohesion. It quickly became obvious that this bunch of girls were not going to allow this game to slip away as happened in the County game against Kinsale. Our backs got on top of the Fermoy forwards and that allowed our midfield and forwards to create a lot of chances up front. Some clinical finishing in front of goal and immaculate free taking from Katie Quirke ensured that we went in a half time with a healthy lead. We started the second half as we finished the first half and quickly put more scores on the board. However, we seemed to drift out of the game for a large period in the middle of the half but great defending from our backs allowed Katie to break away and score a great goal that broke Fermoy hearts. Scores from Fiona Barry, Shauna Hayes and Sally Mc Carthy ( on her home pitch !! ) ensured that we ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 3-12 to 1-09. You could see that our girls were not going to lose this game to Fermoy and this was evident in the display of free taking and goal scoring from Katie Quirke where she finished the game with a personal tally of 3-08. She put the finishing touch to many of the scoring opportunities created by her team mates.
This was a super team performance from the start and every one of our substitutes on the night and throughout the whole year played a big part in this victory. It proves that you need a panel of 20+ players to be competitive for a whole season. Here`s hoping that the girls put in a huge effort next season and maybe we will be writing about a county title in 2019! Finally, a big thank you to James Aherne, Martin O Sullivan and Joe Barry for the wonderful work done with this group in 2018. The girls would like to wish Joe well in his recovery and hope to see him back soon.U13 Girls FootballBride Rovers 7 -7 Youghal 5-5.
