U12 Ladies Football..
On Saturday the 20th the 2006 team played Inch Rovers in Killeagh the East Cork C championship. A perfect late autumn afternoon for a match.
With some players unavailable we had 18 players available on the day.
Inch Rovers got of to a quick start and we conceded 2 early goals and Inch were dominating all the key exchanges and went on to add 2 points, Bride Rovers got some ball into our forwards and won a free to get us opening score. That seemed to settle the girls as they quickly added 2 more points. But just as were getting a bit momentum Inch got a lucky goal. Then in quick minutes that followed went on to add 2 points and another goal. We got a point back just before half time. The score at half time 5-4 to 0-4. The girls were feeling deflated by their efforts at half time but by time they took to the pitch for the second half there was a sense that the second half was going to be played on Bride Rovers terms.
What followed in the second half was the most complete performance of any team. We added two very quick points straight away after half time. We continued to put Inch under pressure and turning over the ball we worked two more points. Now completely dominating the game we scored two special points. The first was an excellent team effort starting from defenders through to midfield and simple finish by a forward with up to 10 girls involved in a intricate passing move in the lead up to the point. From the resulting kick out we won the ball just in front of our midfield and quick pass into a forward in space who kicked over an amazing point from a very tight angle on the run. If there was a competition for score of the year this would be the winner. The girls were now buzzing and we created a few goal chances, we hit the crossbar and another near miss. We added two more points. With all committed attack by Bride Rovers with full time looming Inch got another goal and quickly added a point. In the end those early goals proved to be a step to far on the day for the Bride Rovers girls. Every single girl can be immensely proud of the efforts on the day. Final score 6-5 to 0-12.
On the 1st October the 2007 team played Fermoy in the the under 12 East Cork development championship in Pynes. With 5 girls from the 2007 part of 2006 team for we brought up girls from the under 10s to complete the team. The girls played really well and pushed a more experienced Fermoy team all the way. This was a great game and championship experience for these young girls.
