Minor County Final ends in a Draw..

Monday night last October the 8th was a night of very mixed fortunes and extremely mixed emotions. As the Minor final against Shandrum went into added time Cian Hogan edged us in front with less than a minute to play. Victory seemed within our grasp but Shandrum equalised with virtually the last puck of the game. It ended 1 15 apiece after a great game. Then as made our way home, back to Bartlemy, Rathcormac and Kildinan, the terrible news filtered through of the death of our great friend and supporter Jim 'Jimbob' O Donovan. Winning and losing games is part of sport, you win some narrowly and lose some agonisingly but all these results and matches pale into insignificance in comparison to the tragic death of a very dearly loved parishioner and Club stalwart.

From half five onwards on Monday evening our supporters gathered in great numbers in Pairc Ui Rinn to witness our first ever Premier Minor Final. The Newtownshandrum/ Dromina combination and ourselves were evenly matched for the first quarter with the scores tied at 0- 3 apiece after 16 minutes - Conor(free), Brian and Conleith getting our opening scores. Two minutes later Conor put us one ahead when he pointed a free. The North Cork side got three in a row to lead by 6/4.  With our defence playing tightly we began to gain control despite playing against the wind. We rattled in 1 2 without reply, the goal from Conleith and Edmond Cashman and Conor adding white flags. Shandrum got a point back but just before the break Conor pointed a free to leave us 1 7 to 0 7 in front at the break. It was a nice lead at half time especially as we had missed a few more scoring opportunities. After the restart we took over completely for ten minutes. We doubled our margin to a six point led courtesy of great points from Brian, Conor (free and a monster point from a free from Paddy O Flynn. We were now ahead by 1 11 to 0 8 and looking good. Shandrum were still very much in the game and when they got a goal slightly against the run of play it energised them. They went from 6 points down to 2 ahead as we went eighteen minutes without  a score and the momentum was now really with them. Our lads responded in terrific fashion to draw level again. Then as we approached the second minute of added time Cian Hogan hit over what we thought was the winning point but Shandrum had the last score to leave it Bride Rovers 1 15 Shandrum and so we will have to meet again. Of course we could have won it but when push came to shove and a two point defeat was staring us in the face our lads responded magnificently as they have done all year. Well done boys and roll on the replay.

Team and scorers Ben Hogan, Ruairi O Sullivan, Jordan Mannix, Matthew Quinn, John Buckley, Patrick O Flynn, Eoin Roche, Kieran Kearney, Griffen O Sullivan, Conor Barry captain 0 7, Cian Hogan 0 1, Conleith Ryan 1 2, Edmond Cashman 0 1, Brian Roche 0 3,         Shaun Knox.

Jim O Donovan, 'Jimbob' RIP.

Sometimes people come into our lives and we are never the same again. We are happier and livelier and better people for having met a special individual. Jimbob was one such character. His smile and quick with and infectious personality endeared him to all. He was called the 'Smiling Plumber' but Jim was much more than that. He was a great husband, father, brother and son and so proud of all his family. We in Bride Rovers have lost a fantastic man, he loved and lived Bride Rovers --every single team in the Club from under 6 to Senior. His contribution to camogie and ladies Football in the parish went well beyond the call of duty. No task was too little or too great for Jim- he simply never said NO when asked to do anything for Bride Rovers. Our heartfelt sympathy to his wife, children, parents, sister and all his relations. Truly we won't see his likes again. May he rest in peace.

UNDER 13 HURLING.

The under 13's played their Premier League 2 hurling semi final against Na Piarsaigh last Wednesday night in Kilworth. Our  lads started very well and built up early lead and maintained that lead to the half time break. In the second half fortunes were reversed however and it was Na Piarsaigh who gained control and took control of the game, and no matter how hard the lads worked  they couldn't force their way back into the match, final score Bride Rovers 1-09 Na Piarsaigh 1-15. Match Squad, D Cashman, A Hynes, R O'Callaghan, F O'Flynn, B Knox, J Collins, C O'Sullivan, K Cotter, C O'Dowd, K Ryan, C Barry, C O'Sullivan, C O'Sullivan, D Kielty, O Kielty, E O'Connor, G Gubbins, L Harrington, L Roche, J Keating, T O'Riordan, C Hogan R O'Riordan. Huge congratulations must go the entire squad who all worked hard and played great hurling throughout the season. Thanks to all those involved with preparing and assisting the lads and thanks to all the parents and supporters who cheered on the lads in every match, the support and encouragement is very much appreciated

UNDER 11 FOOTBALL.

On Saturday last Youghal hosted the u11 Eire Og football Blitz finale with 4 teams  two Youghal teams, Lisgoold and Bride Rovers
Bride Rovers had 15 lads and played the two Youghal teams and beat them in very windy and cold  conditions before playing Lisgoold in the "final"
No trophies medals are awarded at this level with the emphasis being on fun games. We beat Lisgoold also 0-5 to 1-0.
The lads did very well passing close instead of kicking long when against the wind and letting the wind carry the ball into forwards when with it. Overall we were impressed with the work rate and passing.  All 15 were used in the 3 games and our lads went home happy.  This Saturday Oct 13th we have the Eire Og hurling u11 final hosted by the Barrs at 11:30.
Players Adam Cronin  Alexander Morey Cillian O Sullivan  Conor o Riordan Cormac Barry Darragh Delaney  David o Connell Gearoid o Connell Jack Collins Jack Hynes Ronan Barry Sean Dowling  Shane Prendergast  Thomas Hackett Tomas O Riordan
