No Joy in Senior Championship....
Our 2018 Cork Senior Hurling Championship campaign ended last Saturday evening in Castletownroche with a seven points defeat by Newtownshandrum. They say goals win games and on the night we failed to raise a green flag while Newtown got three. It was a very disappointing result after a marvellous game and a great display from our lads. Entering the last five minutes of the contest we were just a point in arrears 2 14 for Newtown to our tally of 19 points. We were still right in the game but then Newtown scored a third goal and added four points while we just had one more point. A seven-point defeat was hard to take but in hurling games can change so quickly and in the end Newtownshandrum maintain their 100% championship record against us. The first half of the game was a hum-dinger in which we started very well. With five different scorers we led 0 7 to 0 3 after twenty four minutes but crucially in that period when we were well on top we also hit seven wides whilst our opponents hit six. In the last few minutes before the break Newtown got a grip on the game with five points in a row to lead 0 8 to 0 7. A late point from Shane O Connor levelled matters at 0 8 apiece at the break. Overall the first half produced some great hurling with our backs doing some brilliant defending in what was a tough, hard game played as hurling should be played. An early second half goal from Tim O Mahony put Newtown ahead but three great points from Cian O Connor (2) and Brian Roche restored parity. It was obvious that our lads were really fired up for the contest and despite a second O Mahony goal we came right back into the game in the third quarter and trailed by just a single point after some great scores. One shot from Daniel Dooley just went over the crossbar when it seemed destined for the top corner of the net -such are the tight margins in hurling games. Newtownshandrum finished strongly and so we're left pondering on what might have been in this County Championship. It was marvellous display from our lads and when we think of the heavy first round defeat by Erins Own in April we can truly say these lads showed great heart during the summer and put in a supreme effort. Defeats like this are hard to take but we know we can come back even stronger.

Great credit to Pat Walsh and his backroom team who left no stone unturned in the preparation of the team -they deserve enormous credit for the long hours and days of training and working behind the scenes to prepare the team. Our season at Senior level is far from over. We are to meet old rivals Glen Rovers in the Quarter-final of the Red FM Senior Hurling League so lads, let's give that League Title a good lash. Thanks to our all our many supporters in the huge crowd on Saturday evening where we outnumbered the Newtown fans by two to one. Thanks also and great credit to the Castletownroche Club for hosting the game at such short notice when the Mallow pitch was deemed unplayable.
East Cork Div 3 Junior Hurling League .
Bride Rovers 1-14 Dungourney 1-06,
This was a very good game of fast flowing hurling played by two very competitive teams in Pynes field. Early on it was close contest but as the game progressed the Rovers took command to register a well deserved victory .
The Rovers third XV are starting to hurling well now with a nice blend of experience and youth in the squad. Our next League match will be against Killeagh so hopefully we can keep improving and have a good run in the championship .

REBEL OG Under 13 Hurling.
Bride Rovers U13's travelled to Caherlag on Monday 3rd of September to take on premier 2 league leaders Erins Own in what turned out to be a proverbial "humdinger" of a match. From the throw in both teams went for the jugular, trading early scores before the Rovers gained what was to be the biggest margin either team would hold throughout the match, 2 points. Erins Own then pounced for a quick 1-01 to turn that 2 point advantage in their favour just as the referee called time on the first half
The second half began as the first half had ended, with a feast of fine hurling on display from both teams, the Rovers struck early for a goal, Erins Own struck back with a couple of minor scores, and so it continued, tit for tat with no one relenting, until the referee called a halt to proceedings with the scoreboard reading Erins Own 3-13 Bride Rovers 4-10
It was a huge display of hard work, courage, pride and skill from the lads with the draw ensuring qualification for the semi finals with one game still remaining, also many thanks to all the support for the lads, it's very much appreciated.

GOOD LUCK CORK.
Best wishes to both Cork Senior and Intermediate camogie teams in Croke Park next Sunday. The Seniors meet Kilkenny while the Intermediates play Down. Jennifer Barry is centre back on the Intermediate team and Mossy O Sullivan is a selector so we wish them the very best. Last year the Intermediates lost a replayed All Ireland Final against Meath.
WELL DONE RAYMOND AND JAMES.
Seldom enough Bride Rovers are involved on All Ireland Football Final Day but we were dually represented last Sunday. James Bermingham was one of the linesmen for the Minor Final where Kerry won an history-making 5 in a row against Galway. In the Senior Final, Dublin v Tyrone, Raymond Hegarty was one of referee Conor Lanes umpires. Well done lads.
FOOTPATHS.
The footpaths around the pitch have just been completed and have come in for much favourable comment. They provide an extra amenity for our members and supporters. Thanks to Donal and Sean for a job very well done. This year the pitch has been re-fenced and now with the paths down Pairc na Bride looks very well. We still have plans for further improvements of our facilities as finance will allow.
