Senior Ladies Football..

Our Senior Ladies footballers made the long trek to St Colum's grounds in Kealkil last Monday night to play Bantry in their last game of the round robin series of the Senior Football Championship with nothing less than a win required. We started brightly and our forwards were immediately putting the Bantry defence under immense pressure but initially the scores were slow to come. We traded points with Bantry before Niamh Barry settled our nerves with a well taken goal and a point. This was followed by three more goals from Grace Kearney and Katie Quirke, along with pointed frees from Grace Culloty,  to leave us in a commanding position at the short whistle, leading by 4-04 to 1-07. In fact we should have been further ahead only for the woodwork and some erratic finishing.

As expected, Bantry came out with all guns blazing at the start of the second half but our girls stood up to the onslaught and gave it back in spades. We knew that we needed a big score so there was no let-up. Sarah Murphy received a dubious yellow card with about 8 minutes remaining but up stepped Grace Culloty to play between the posts and she made a great save from a penalty. The support play evident in our last three outings and the intensity in our tackling along with a well organised defensive setup showed the progress that we have made under the new management team. Our fitness levels ensured that we finished strongly with the final score reading Bride Rovers 8-07, Bantry 3-10. Solid performances for our starting backs and midfielders laid the foundation for this victory and allowed our 6 forwards the freedom to give their best display of attacking football so far this season. Another encouraging aspect to Monday night`s game was the contribution made by all of our substitutes to this victory. For any team to be successful in the modern game, you need a strong bench. Well done to all involved and keep up the hard work!

Junior Ladies Football

On Friday last our juniors played O Donovan Rossa in our final outing of the championship in Rathcormac. In what proved to be a tough encounter against the Rossa 1st team our girls performed admirably and even though the win eluded them on the night they can hold their heads up high with the performances that they gave this year. The highlight of the year has to be the winning of the junior east cork title and the inclusion of some very good young players to the team.

Junior CamogieBride Rovers 1-15 Ballincollig 1-13
On Monday the 20th of August Rovers played Ballincollig in a very competitive game of Camogie. The sliotar was being moved very quickly by two very evenly matched teams.  Both teams got some delightful sores and at half time Rovers were up 0-09 Ballincollig 1-04.The second half was equally as good as both teams continued to play some great camogie with the sliotar being moved at great pace leading to some very good passing movements and a number of well taken scores by both teams. In a pulsating finish the Rovers held on to win by two points over a very good Ballincollig team . Both teams fielded all players who were present on the night and everyone played really well. The rovers were up against a very good team but you must always measure yourself against a stronger team.  I think the girls really stood up to the challenge and moved to a level they were comfortable with so well done to everyone and keep it going.Team: R.O Flynn, J.Cahill, E.Larkin, C.Hazelwood, E.Collins, C.O Flynn, T.O.Sullivan, M.Hazelwood, A. U10 Girls FootballLast Saturday, on a beautiful morning our U9s and U10s played Watergrasshill in two very entertaining games with some lovely football from both sides. Both teams blended both passing and running with the ball very well which lead to some very good scores in both games.Next up for the girls is their last league match of the year against Delaneys this Thursday evening. A big thanks to Watergrasshill for making the journey to Pairc ná Bride.

RATHCORMAC 4 MILE ROAD RACE Bride Rovers Ladies & Max Runners in conjunction with St. Nicholas A.C. presented the highly  JUMP JUICE BARS Rathcormac 4 Mile Road Race on Thursday last 23rd of August in which a total of 308 runners turned up for this years race, a whopping 35% increase on the 225 of last year! Last year's race proved to be hugely successsful and attracted athletes from clubs across Cork to participate in this year's road race. This is an important fundraiser for our club and we are delighted with the support given to this event in only its second year. A huge thank you and well done to all participants and organisers and to anyone who contributed to this fundraiser in any way. Your support is much appreciated.

CLOTHES COLLECTIONNext Clothes, Bags, Shoes Collection Friday 7th September 2018 at Rathcormac Community Centre 7.30 pm to 8.00 p.m. (garage to rear).  This is a massive fundraiser for the club so bring on your old clothes, shoes, bags. "IF IN DOUBT CHUCK IT OUT".
