Denis on Cork Team..
Next Sunday in Thurles Denis Cashman will don the Red jersey of Rebel Cork when he lines out in the Primary game against Tipperary. Denis is continuing a proud tradition of young players from our parish who have played on the Cork Primary Game sides. It will be proud day for the Cashman family and for the Bride Rovers Club. It is a great honour to be picked on a County team and we know Denis will do us proud. We wish Denis and all his team mates the very best on next Sunday. Munster Final Day is one of the biggest occasions in the Irish sporting calendar and hopefully next Sunday be a great day for the ancient game of hurling.
Munster Final Morning
Today is Munster Hurling Final Day
Thoughts of Ring, Doyle, Mackey and Fenton
Dust in the square, the crush of the crowd
Killarney, Cork, Ennis Road and Semple
Hip to hip, pulling hard, ash and leather flying
Blood and bandage, helmets and handshakes
Ham sandwiches, 'ripe apples and pears'
Outside this morning the sun is shining
The hay is well saved and Tipp are 'bate',
Rain or sun the crowds will travel
Drawn as if to Knock, or Mecca or Lourdes.
If the game is lost so is the summer
Victory can mean O Connell Street in September.
'Tis only a game, but what a game.
Junior Hurling; East Cork Championship.
At a sweltering Felix Sarsfield memorial Park in Watergrasshill on Sunday evening last we met Sarsfields in the first round of the East Cork A Grade Junior Hurling Championship. It was our second team against Sars third XV. On a baking hot day it was really trying conditions for both teams but a great game of hurling was served up. When Einne O hEochaidh netted a good goal for us midway through the first half we had a four point lead. It was short-lived however as Sars hit back with some great scores. It was point for point right up until the last ten minutes of the contest. We were reduced to fourteen men and Sars added four points in the eight minutes of added time to win by 1 19 to 1 13. With a strong team on duty it was a disappointing result but all is not lost as there is a 'back door' in this Championship. Cobh and Lisgoold play on Sunday week and the 2nd round draws will be made then but the St Itas v Russell Rovers first round game won't be played until Cork are out of the Senior Championship.Team & scorers v Sars; F. Hogan, T. O Sullivan, D. Carr, M.Liddane 0 1, B. Collins, L. Forde, R.Prendergast, S. Boyce 0 1, S. Kearney, S. Ryan, DJ. Cahill 0 1, C. Barry (0 8, 0 5 frees), J. Mannix 0 1, E O hEochaidh 1 0, D. Buckley 0 1(Captain). Subs S. Glasgow, S. Hackett, O. Murphy.

Brideside Ramblings.
As Clubs in Waterford are back with Championship action this weekend the position in Cork is still far from certain. If Cork win the Munster Final on Sunday they are straight into an All Ireland semi final on the weekend of July 28/29. On the other hand if the Bannermen beat the Rebels Cork will have a quarter final game two weeks later -possibly against Wexford. This new Championship at Inter County level was supposed to bring certainty to everyone in regards to fixtures but it's a complete disaster. Then last week we had the debacle of no tickets for many Club members for next Sunday. One can understand that during the game-after-game Round Robin series tickets simply could not be distributed through the Clubs. For the Munster final I cannot comprehend why the old system whereby Clubs got what tickets their members and players wanted and the rest were sold to the general public was not in place. Now if you are quick online or close to an urban or town Supermarket you're ok and tough luck for all others. It seems that us the famous, so-called 'grassroots' are really being treated like mushrooms "keep 'em in the dark and feed 'em plenty bull****". It's a disgraceful way to treat Club people all over the country.
