Footballers in Semi Final..

The 2018 East Cork Junior B Football championship was played on a league basis with two groups of three teams. We were grouped with Glenville and Glanmire. Having played a drawn game with Glanmire and Glanmire defeated Glenville our progression in the competition depended on our game with Glenville. We had already drawn with them earlier in the year in our Junior F League Tie. So on Saturday night our Junior B football team travelled to Castlelyons to meet Glenville in the last of the group games.  Whoever won would go on to contest the semi-final against Ballinacurra.  We started well and had 1-1 on the scoreboard before Glenville responded with a point.  Our goal came from centre-back Jason Pratt, and the point from William Finnegan.  William went on to score two more points in the first half and our scoring tally was increased with a well taken point from Ryan Prendergast.  Glenville were able to match us score for score and at half-time it was all square at Bride Rovers 1-4 to Glenville's  0-7.

Bride Rovers dominated the first ten minutes of the second half but were unable to convert this into a lead.  Then William Finnegan scored two points, one from play and one from a free. Four white flags in a row saw Glenville go into a two point lead which they held for the next fifteen minutes.  During this period we found it very difficult to make any progress against a solid Glenville defence. With five minutes to play we were down 0-11 to 1-6, before captain Daniel Dooley went on a 50 metre run which ended in a well taken goal, putting us into a one point lead. Shane Walsh followed this up with another fine run into the Glenville half before being fouled.  The free was converted by William Finnegan to double our  margin to two points.  The game moved into injury time as Glenville came in waves seeking a late winning goal. Our backs held out and when Michael Walsh blew the full-time whistle we were winners on a scoreline of 2-7 to 0-11. This was a very pleasing victory, well done lads on a great effort. We are now in the semi final against Ballinacurra while Glanmire and Russell Rovers meet in the other semi.

Team: Ben Hogan, Tadhg O'Sullivan, Shane Walsh, Jordan Mannix, Stephen Pratt, Jason Pratt, Shane O'Connor, William Finnegan, Daniel Dooley, DJ Cahill, Liam Forde, Ryan Prendergast, Shane O'Flynn, Terry Broderick, Damien Buckley, Jason Mannix, Barry Johnson, Richie Cahill, Diarmuid O'Keeffe, Frank Hogan, Cian Howard.

On a downside one of our most consistent players this year at Minor, under 21 and Junior, Jordan Mannix, was injured in the game and will likely miss out on the rest of the football season.  We wish him well on the road to recovery.

Under 11 Football.

We visited Grenagh on last Saturday 9th June  and we played a 11 a side on a scorching day at 10 o clock.   We started well but fell away in the first half leaving in some very soft goals as we were losing the aerial battles as Grenagh were great fielders of the ball.
We battled better in the second half and got our passing  game going again and picked off nice scores when we got then opportunity.  We weren't helped by a very partisan young referee who let a lot of nasty tackling go. In the end we were beaten but tried hard  until the end whistle. Our next match is hurling against St Catherine's on this coming Saturday  at 11. Next training session is on tonight Thursday June 14th  night in Scannells at 7 pm

Under 13

We have no under 13 match this week . Football training Thursday night at 7 in Pyne’s Field.

Busy Under 14's.

Our Under 14 hurlers had two home League games in the last week v mallow and Na Piarsaigh. We played Mallow at home last Wednesday evening in the Premier1 hurling league winning on a scoreline of 4-15 to 3-7.  There certainly are no easy game in this league.  Even if the scoreline shows we won well we had to work really hard against a good Mallow outfit.  We had a good panel on the night of 20 players and all got a game.  Panel  Frank O Flynn Eldon O Conor Liam Collins Cormac  O Sullivan David Barry Conor Hazelwood Nicky Kelleher Ronan O Connell Cillian Tobin Denis Cashman Adam Walsh Adam Hayes Ryan O Callaghan Louis Roche Josh Ahern Luke Harrington Ben Knox Jack Keating Cillian Barry Adam Hynes.

U14 premier 1 hurling v Na Piarsaigh; . We played Na Piarsaigh at home last Wednesday evening in the premium 1 hurling league this was a very high scoring game with Bride Rovers coming out on top with a scoreline of 3-18 to 4-13.  We now  have played 4 games in this league winning all our games so far sitting on top of the table with 8 points. The standard of hurling is very high at this level but we're lucky to have such a great bunch of lads playing the game. Our next game is  at home to Inniscarra Premier 2 football Wednesday 13th and the following Wednesday the 20th we are at home to Midleton Premier 1 hurling. Training this sat at 12 main pitch.  Panel  v Na Piarsaigh ;Frank O Flynn Eldon O Conor Liam Collins Cormac  O Sullivan David Barry Conor Hazelwood Nicky Kelleher Ronan O Connell Cillian Tobin Denis Cashman Adam Walsh Adam Hayes Ryan O Callaghan Louis Roche Josh Ahern Luke Harrington Ben Knox Jack Keating Cillian Barry Adam Hynes.

Mary O Dowd RIP

It was with a sense of shock and disbelief that we learned of the death on last Sunday of Mary O Dowd of Corrin View, Rathcormac. Her death after a short illness is a terrible blow to her beloved family and the wider community. A native of Dungourney Mary came to live in our parish after her marriage to Paud O Dowd, a man with a proud and strong Kerry heritage. With a great love of Gaelic games from both sides it was no wonder that the O Dowd family became so immersed in the GAA and in Bride Rovers in particular. Even before her own family began to play hurling and football Mary was involved in our Juvenile Club. She made history as the first ever female delegate from Bride Rovers to attend the regular meetings of the East Cork Juvenile board. The role of Board delegate is not always easy as one has to fight tooth and nail sometimes to get fixtures made or postponed to suit one's own Club. Mary relished this task and served the Club well in this role for several years. Her interests were not confined to GAA activities alone. She was a huge promoter of Athletics and the Scouting movement where her husband Paud also excelled. The death of her husband was a terrible blow to Mary but she kept on going for her family and in more recent years for her beloved grandchildren. Just at the weekend she reached the age of 74 so her life span in today's terms was not very long. Though she did not live into old age she leaves a massive and valuable legacy behind her. Her daughter and three sons proudly carry the Cremin and O Dowd genes, they are great family and community people as were their parents before them. Mary, we thank you for the amount of work you put in and the sacrifices you made while in our midst. May you rest in peace.

Cork Hurlers

We wish both Cork teams, Senior and Minor the very best this weekend v Waterford. For Patrick O Flynn and his Minor team mates it's been a strange campaign. After a great win over Clare they've lost to Limerick and Tipperary and face Waterford in the fourth game in Thurles on Sunday.
