Senior Hurlers defeated by Ballymartle..
Last week we made the trip to Riverstick to take on local side Ballymartle in the Red FM sponsored Cork County Senior Hurling League. Hopes were high for a victory as the team was in good form recently however in Ballymartle we met a tough physical challenge and were beaten 0-21 to 1-16. The Rovers started the brighter and after the first quarter of play led 0-07 to 0-03. In that period of dominance the Rovers score can from Barry Johnson (2F), Brian Roche (2), Conleith Ryan, Michael Collins and Daniel Dooley. However after this Ballymartle stormed into the game and with Barry O’Dwyer punishing us for any indiscretions they cancelled out our lead and at half time led 0-13 to 0-09, the Rovers points coming from Daniel Dooley & Barry Johnson. Ballymartle had the first score of the second half but 4 unanswered points from the Rovers reduced the debit to 2. Daniel Dooley with a brace of points along with points from Brian Roche & Barry Johnson. However we once again went out of the game and Ballymartle took control scoring 6 points to lead 0-20 to -014 with time running out. Points from Eoin Roche & William Finnegan followed by a Michael Collins goal setup a nail biting finish. The Rovers pushed for that winning goal but it never came as Ballymartle held on to win 0-21 to 1-16.Team & Scorers J. O’Driscoll, F.Collins, B.Walsh, B.Murphy, E.Roche (0-1), J.Pratt, S.Walsh, S.O’Connor, C. O'Connor, Ml. Collins (1-01), C.Ryan (0-1), D.Dooley (0-4), B.Roche (0-3) E.O hEochaidh, B.Johnson (0-4F).
