Three League Wins, for Seniors and Minor Hurlers....

Senior league Double..

After three games without a win our Senior Hurlers had a nice double last week. We drew our first Red FM SHL game against the Barrs and then lost games to Sars and the GlenDuring Easter  week then our senior hurlers travelled to Midleton Blackrock for matches. As we were away from home these games were always going to be tough assignment for any team and to come away with two wins was a great achievement. On Thursday evening we played Midleton in Clonmult memorial Park with a 6.45pm throw-in on a bitterly cold evening. Playing against a strong wind the Rovers defence was under pressure from the start. William Finnegan had the Rovers first two points from frees before Barry Johnson got his first. Brian Roche added another a minute later. Midleton levelled the game in the fifteenth minute and moments late took the lead with a well taken goal. In their next attack the Rovers won a penalty which Barry Johnson duly converted. Midleton grabbed their second goal five minutes before half time to lead by a margin of four points  but a well taken goal from Michael Collins reduced the deficit to a point at half time; Midleton 2-07 Bride Rovers 2-06.
The Magpies got the better of the early exchanges in the second half to open up a three point lead but two points from placed balls by William Finnegan and another from Brian Roche tied up the game. Conleith Ryan ran onto a great pass from Shane O’Connor to bury the ball to the net. Further points from William Finnegan (2) and Brian Roche ensured a 3-12 to 2-11 for the Rovers.

Three days after the win over Midleton we travelled to Church Road on Sunday to play Blackrock. The pitch was a credit to Blackrock despite the heavy rain over the weekend. Blackrock opened the scoring with a point, William Finnegan levelled matters moments later before a point from Brian Roche and a brace from Daniel Dooley extended our lead to 0-04 to 0-01. William Finnegan pointed two frees and the Rovers were in control of this game with our backline closing down the Rockies attack.  However the city side came right back into the contest when they struck with two goals to level the game 2-02 to 0-08. However the Rovers response was great with three points from Stephen Glasgow, Daniel Dooley and William Finnegan. These white flags gave us a three point lead at the short whistle ; Blackrock 2-02 Bride Rovers 0-11.
We had a poor start to the second half which saw the concession of three points to  tie up the game but a Brian Roche goal restored the Rovers lead.  Four points from William Finnegan (3) and Brian Roche put the Rovers in front by four points and we held out for the win
Full time Bride Rovers 1-15 Blackrock 2-08.
