Good win in West Cork for the Minors..

On Monday last our Minor Football team were in action the Rebel Og County Premier 2 Minor Football league. It was long journey back to Rath near Baltimore where we played the home side Ilen Rovers. With victory over Cobh in the opening round the team travelled in great hope to the West Cork venue. Once the referee threw in the ball the Bride Rovers boys were quickly of the mark Michael Friel's shot on goals was saved and Conleith Ryan was on hand to punch home a great goal. This was a dream start for the visitors followed by a Seamus Ahern point in the eight minute. Points from centre forward Patrick O Flynn in the 15th 22nd and 25th minutes kept the Rovers in control. Conor Barry added a point before the interval to send his team 1.5 to 0.4 in front to the dressing rooms Bride Rovers dominated all positions in the opening half with a fast flowing brand of football that the home team found hard to cope with. In the second half the Rovers fought for every ball with their defence in excellent form and this is a hallmark of this team. In midfield and forwards they had some great displays and these lads can mix it with the best. In the 38th min Seamus Ahern added his second point. Conor Barry added a brace of points in the 45th (free) and 49th minutes. The score of the match came in the dying moments when a marvellous individual effort from team captain Conleith Ryan who soloed 50 meters to blast the ball to the home net - game over. Bride Rovers 2.8 Ilen Rovers 0.7. This was a excellent team effort from the 18 boys who travelled on the day and not for the first time did a West Cork team finish second best. A huge thanks to the parents who provided transport for this 180 mile round trip, you too can be proud to be part of a great team. On this sat we travel to the Glen to take on St Nicks in round 3 with a 3.00pm start.
