Extra Time Win for Under 21's...

On Sunday at noon we faced Carrignavar in the first round of the East Cork Under 21 Football Championship. The game was played in Pairc na Bride, having been originally fixed for a week earlier when it fell foul of the weather. We played with a nice breeze in the first half and got well on top at midfield with Colm Power and Conleith Ryan dominating. We held Carrig  to a single score over the 30 minutes and we led at the short whistle by 1 7 to 0 1. The second half saw Carrignavar score 3 4 while we got just four points. Indeed we were lucky to get the last point of the hour to earn a draw 1 11 to 3 4 for Carrig. Two periods of extra time were then played and we took over to win by a deserved margin of 7 points, 3 14 to 3 7. Well done lads on a good display. In actual fact this was our first win in the East Cork under 21 football championship since 2006 when we defeated Castlelyons by  1 6 to 1 3.

RED FM Co SHL.

On Saturday night last Bride Rovers made the short journey to Riverstown to play Sarsfields in the RedFM Senior Hurling League.

For the opening 20 minutes this was a very even contest with Sarsfields leading 0-06 to 0-04. The Rovers points coming from Barry Johnson, Conor Barry (free), Michael Collins and  Cian O’Connor. The Rovers defence were competing well restricting Sarsfields to just 6 points. However disaster struck with Rovers reduced to 14 and this was followed by the concession of an easy goal. We then lost Ryan Prendergast to a serious leg injury. Further points from Sarsfields had them in front at half time 1-09 to 0-05, the Rovers 5th point coming from a Barry Johnson free. On the changeover Sars struck 4 points without reply. However the Rovers began to get a grip on the game. Shane O’Connor and William Finnegan both scored points before Brian Roche grabbed a goal for the Rovers. Two pointed frees by Barry Johnson followed before Brian Roche struck for a second goal. Despite the loss the overall performance was good. Final score Sarsfields 2-14 Bride Rovers 2-09. Team: J.O’Driscoll. F.Collins, J.Pratt, R.Prendergast, S.O Connor, S.Walsh, S.Kearney, E.Roche, B.Johnson, M.Collins, D.Dooley, C.O’Connor, B.Roche, S.Glasgow, C.Barry. Subs used.
