Junior League - 18th of February, 2018

Cork LGFA County League Division 6, 18th February 2018. Mallow 1-11 Bride Rovers 2-8

Our junior team had a very satisfactory start to the 2018 league when they shared the points with the home side at Mallow GAA last Sunday.

We were in control for much of the match, leading by 6 points at half-time, but Mallow got back into the game for 10 minutes after the interval and ultimately we were grateful for a late point from substitute Rachael O'Flynn to earn a deserved draw.

Goalkeeper Caitriona Vaughan excelled throughout and had the distinction of saving a penalty twice, when it was ordered by the referee to be retaken. Our backs played well throughout with a very young full back line of Mary Hazelwood, Claire Hickey and Talitha Neill excelling. Arlene O'Callaghan's experience at centre back was vital and she was aided very well by wing backs Aine Cashman and Emily Larkin.

Niamh Barry and Siobhan O'Sullivan played their part at midfield often driving forward to join the attack, Siobhan scoring a goal from distance also. Our forwards scored well, especially in the first half, many of the moves beginning in the half-forward line of free-taker Elaine Culloty, goalscorer Meg Kelliher and Katie Connor. The full-forward line was a mixture of youth and experience also with Anna Murray and Lucy Hicks lining up alongside Imeda Dorgan. Rachael O'Flynn and Chloe Ahern, despite still recovering from a recent illness, both came on as replacements. Well done to everyone who togged out on on the day for what proved to be a very enjoyable game.
