Bride Rovers Club 100 Launch...
On Friday next we are launching Bride Rovers Club 100. The Official launch will take place in the Rathcormac In at 8pm and everyone in the parish is welcome. Club 100 is an exciting new development for our Club. As we head towards our Centenary in ten years time we have major plans for the future. Club 100 is the way in which we can involve all our supporters and ensure that the facilities we will have in the future will be matched with our needs as our population grows. This is an open invitation to everyone in the parish to come along on Friday night.
For several months now the Club's Finance and Development Committee have been meeting to finalise this major initiative. Back in 1928 when the Club was formed we had an initial 3 teams, this year 2018 we will be fielding 48 teams. Between Scoil Bride, Rathcormac and Bishop O Brien School Bartlemy there are over 500 pupils. Last year just over 400 boys and girls, men and women wore the Green White and Gold of Bride Rovers playing hurling, camogie, football and ladies football. With such numbers we are aware that we need to develop further playing facilities in terms of playing fields, a modern gym, catering and meeting rooms. We also plan upgrading the dressingrooms and toilets and erecting a stand. Club Chairman Richie O Regan said at our most recent meeting "Thus is a very exciting new development for the Bride Rovers Club as we head towards our centenary. The completion of this project is entirely dependent on the generosity of our community which we would greatly appreciate".
The Bride Rovers Club is a community based Club drawing it's membership and playing base from Bartlemy, Rathcormac and Kildinan. Founded in 1928 the Club won East Cork Junior A grade Hurling Championships in 1930 and 1932 and East Cork and County Minor Hurling Championships in 1932. We reached the County Intermediate Final in 1933 and competed in this grade until 1937. A Bishop Brown J H Cup win was the only success in the 1940's but Con Murphy brought the first ever Senior All Ireland medal to the Club in 1946. After a lean period 1966 brought double glory winning the East Cork B Grade HC for the first time and Seanie Barry won Senior and u 21 All Ireland medals with Cork. East Cork A Grade titles were won in 1968 and 1969 and a second B Grade title in 1975. We lost two A Grade finals in 1972 and 1973.Our first ever B Grade title was won in 1981 with Tom Kearney as Captain. Two Junior A Hurling League titles were won in 1981 and 1982. The O Flynn Cup was won in 1988 with Paudie Collins Captain. After a few years down at Junior G level we won the B Grade Double - hurling and Football in 1983. After losing the 1997 East Cork A Final we won the East Cork and County titles in1998 with Donal Ryan as captain. Five year later we won the Intermediate Title. We won Munster Titles at Junior and Intermediate and a Junior All Ireland 7 a side Title. We reached the Co Senior H final in 2008 losing by a point. Brian Murphy won 2 All Ireland Senior medals with Cork and Brendan Walsh captained Cork to an Intermediate Hurling Title. In recent years we have captured East Cork and Co titles at under 13, 14, 15, 16 and Minor level. Last year the Roche twins Brian and Eoin were joint captains of the Cork All Ireland winning under 17 Hurling team and they also starred with Cork Minors.
We have a proud past and are very confident for the future. Our youth are vital and coaching and games development are now seen as vital in our Club. Bride Rovers Club 100 is an exciting, new initiative to ensure the future of our Club, see ye on Friday night .
