1928 -when the Bride Rovers Club  was formed.

It was in the autumn of 1928 that a decision was made to call a meeting of 'Gaels of the parish' with a view to uniting the two existing GAA Clubs in the parish into one parish team. Hurling teams representing both Rathcormac and Bartlemy had been fielded sporadically during the early 1920's but with little success. In 1927 a famous game was played in Rathcormac which gave rise to the phrase 'moving the goalposts'! In May of that year Rathcormac met Aghada in the East Cork Junior Hurling championship in Midleton. After a good game Aghada won by 3 2 to 1 3.  A month later the teams met again in the Junior Hurling League, a 'home' game for Rathcormac. The pitch at that time was in a roadside field in Knocknaboola townland. The match was fixed for half past three with an admission charge of 6d. By three o clock a large crowd had gathered for the game but most of the spectators were outside on the road hoping to see the game over the ditch thus sparing sixpence each! Well funds in the Club were low so after a hurried meeting of the Club officers a plan of action was devised. A few shovels were procured and the goal posts were duly dug up. These were then taken down to a field closer to river Bride, re-erected there - well away from the road. The sixpences were duly collected, a report on the Examiner stated 'the attendance was on the large side' The referee was well known East Cork GAA personality Eamonn Fleming. Rathcormac. The match report included a concluding sentence; Both teams seemed equally matched and possessed of a true sporting spirit. At the call of fulltime the score was Rathcormac 1  2, Aghada 1  1. The Rathcormac team was ;  Tim Cotter Captain, Matt Cranitch(goal), Edmond Finn, John Bannon, Tim O Riordan, Michael O Riordan, Jim Murphy, Mick Dorgan, Billy Hanan, Jack Leahy, Tommy Condon, Jerh O Gorman, Ned Daly, Mickey Flynn, Ned Hoskins. In August 1927 Bartlemy played newly formed Watergrasshill in two practise games winning both contests. For 1928 both Bartlemy and Rathcormac entered in East Cork competitions but it seems Bartlemy took part in only the League. Rathcormac lost by 5 0 to  2 4 against Killeagh in the championship, a game played in Lisgoold. In July1928 Lisgoold defeated the following Bartlemy team by 2 4 to 2 0; Ned Hoskins (Captain), Bill Spillane, Jim Heskin, Johnny Fitzgerald, John Kearney, Connie O Brien, Dinny O Leary, Patrick O Connell, Patrick Leahy, Mike Ahern, William O Shea, Maurice O Shea and D. O Leary. The two teams in the parish played away despite no real success -five matches were played in the month of October. Maybe the players and 'mentors' on both sides decided that a combined parish team was the best way to promote Gaelic games in the parish.
