Happy New Year..

A very happy New Year to everyone from Bride Rovers GAA Club. We are in the New Year of 2018, a special year for our Club. Ninety years ago this year a gathering of Gaels from all parts of the Parish gathered in the Band Room in Bartlemy and at that meeting the Bride Rovers Club was founded so our 90th Anniversary is something to be proud of. Half a century ago, in 1968 we recaptured the East Cork Junior A Grade Hurling Championship for the first time since 1932 so hopefully later this year that Golden Jubilee will be celebrated.  These are very important historical milestones in the story of Gaelic Games in our parish but our future is foremost in our planning. In the very near future a major undertaking is about to commence. In just ten years time we will be 100 years in existence. Since 1928 there has been massive change in society, in the GAA, in our parish if Bartlemy, Kildinan and Rathcormac.  We have players in our Club who commenced playing when we had no dressingrooms to tog out in ! With a huge increase in our parish population and a pro rata increase in playing numbers we are planning for the future. In 1929 when the name Bride Rovers was initially used on the playing fields of East Cork just three teams were fielded. For this year of 2018 the total number of teams in Hurling, Football, Camogie and Ladies Football will be well over 50 so extra playing and other facilities are needed. We will shortly be unveiling our Plans and vision for the next decade and launching a major fund-raising campaign. Certainly there are very exciting times ahead.

LOTTO JACKPOT AT  €18,000.

The Lotto draw for last week took place on Wednesday night December the 27th with a Jackpot of €17,800. The four numbers drawn on the night were 5, 24, 26, 30 and there was no winner and the prizes of €30 each went to Joey Cahill, Nigel Murphy, Castlemagner, Pat O'Connor, Scartbarry, Kevin Cronin, Fermoy, Yvonne O'Sullivan c/o D Lane.  Tickets for the Lotto are just €2 each and can be bought from Club members, in local business outlets and online at locallotto.ie Your ongoing support of the Lotto is really appreciated. The Income from the weekly Lotto is vital in helping with the day-to-day running of the Club. The Lotto Jackpot for the first Draw of 2018, on last Tuesday night January the 2nd was €18,000.

WEDDING BELLS.

Congratulations to Michael Collins and Elaine Collins on their wedding just before Christmas. Since the 1880's the Collins family of Mullintoura have been synonymous with hurling and football in our parish. Michael's father, grandfather and great grandfather have all played hurling and football and Michael continues that proud tradition. Since Elaine joined Bride Rovers she has helped with many significant wins. We wish Michael and Elaine a long and happy married life together.

St. STEPHEN'S DAY WALK/RUN.

There was great turnout on St Stephen's Day morning for the Juvenile Clubs Fun Run/ Walk. The tough weather conditions didn’t deter the hardy participants. Well done to everyone who took part.

HARTY HURLING NEXT WEEK.

It might be just the first week of January but hurling is back on the agenda already. On Wednesday next St. Colmans College, Fermoy take on CBC in the Harty Cup quarter final. The game is timed for 1.30 but at the time of writing no venue had been announced
