Junior & Minor Hurling finals this weekend..

December might be just around the corner but the playing season goes on. This coming weekend we are down to play two hurling Finals. The East Cork Junior C Hurling Championship Final against Cobh is fixed for 2.30 pm on Sunday. The Minor Hurlers after a good semi-final win last Friday night are in the East League Final v Ballygarvan and this final may be played on Saturday. The Junior C team is our third adult hurling team and they face Cobh's second string in a repeat of the 2015 Final.

Junior C Hurling Final.

For the fourth year in a row our Junior C team contests the East Cork Championship Final. In 2014 we lost the Final to Russell Rovers in Dungourney. The following year we won our first Junior C Final defeating Cobh in Lisgoold and last year we retained the Michael Foley Memorial Cup with a final win over Midleton.  It's a great feat for the Club that for the fourth year in a row we have reached the Junior C decider. Between Senior and Junior A we have used over forty players.  We have had two games in this competition to reach the Final and these were really contrasting contests.  On Sunday September 24th at sun-drenched Dungourney we had an easy quarter final win over Lisgoold on a scoreline of  5 24 to 0 4. A month later under the Riverstown lights we had a very tight tussle with Sarsfields. It took a great finish with six points in as row to reach the Final with a narrow one point win over Sarsfields 0 14 to 1 10. Cobh have had three games to date. They defeated Fr O Neills 1 15 to 0 14 before drawing the semi final against Killeagh, 1 12 apiece. Cobh won the replay by 3 10 to 0 12. This is Cobh's second team and as they made a relatively early exit from the East Cork Junior A Grade championship they have a huge panel to pick from. Our team is led by Captain Brian Lahive and the lads have put in a big effort over the last three months. Billy Finnegan and Sham Buckley are in charge of the team which features a nice mix of youth and experience many of whom have given massive service to the Bride Rovers Club over the years. When we met Cobh in the 2015 Final the game was played in Lisgoold but at the time of writing no venue has been finalised but half 2 on Sunday is the time fixed. It will be huge task for our boys to win this Title but they can only give of their best and they always do that. Best of luck Brian and all the team, go for it lads.

Minor Hurling League Final. We are billed to play Ballygarvan in the Rebel Og East MHL Final probably on Saturday.  On the last day of July -Monday the 31st, in Mayfield we met Ballygarvan in the first round of the Minor A Hurling Championship. After a thrilling game we held on  for a one point win by 3 16 to 2 18. It was a marvellous game and though Ballygarvan had most of their team on the age of 18 we fashioned a mighty win. We've had a brilliant three months since while Ballygarvan defeated St Catherines in the League semi final. There was nothing between the two teams back in July so the League Final should be close also.

MHL  Semi Final. On Friday night last we travelled the Top Field in Cobh to take on the home team in The League semi Final. Cobh beat us by a point in the East Region Championship Final while we reversed that result in the County semi final. There's an old séan-focail in Irish 'Tosach maith leath na h-oibre" - A Good Start is Half the Work and that's the way it was in the Cathedral town under the floo0dlights on Friday night. We got off to a flying start. Before the clock had reached four minutes we were up by 2 2 to no score. Conor Barry had a goal from the throw in and followed with a point. Conleith Ryan raised our second green flag and Kieran Kearney added a point. Cobh had a point from a free before adding a goal and we knew we were in for a cracker of a game. Our defence got well on top and we had points from Conor Barry(2) Griffen O Keeney, Shane O Flynn and Cian Hogan (2) to help us to a six point lead 2 8 to 1 5.

On the restart points from Conleith and Conor (free) extended our lead to eight. Cobh hit back with two pointed frees. When they scored a goal from a penalty our lead was just three points. Paddy O Flynn added a point from a 65 and Eoin Roche added another. Cobh had several attacks but team captains John and Jordan defended well. Conor Barry added three more points to bring our tally to 2 16 while Cobh finished with 2 11. For mid November it was great game, well done lads.Team ; B. Hogan, J. O Sullivan, J. Mannix. R.
