Under 16 Final Tonight...

Our Under 16 football team contest the Rebel Og East Region Final on Tonight Thursday November the 9th. We defeated Castlelyons in the first round of the competition. Then we had two great semi final games against the Kilworth/Araglen combination Kilara Og. The first game was in Rathcormac and we fought back from six points down to earn a draw with literally the last kick of the game.  The replay was played in Kilworth under lights and we emerged as winners after another great game. Our opponents in the final are Fr O Neills. They competed at premier level two years ago in the under 14 competition so they will go into the final as favourites. The absence of Matthew Quinn is a major blow, but win lose or draw this under 16 team have been magnificent all year. Tonight's game is fixed for Killeagh at 7.45, under lights. Go for it lads.

Junior Hurlers Well Beaten.

Our second team played Sarsfields in the East cork Junior Hurling League Division 2 Final in Riverstown last Sunday. Ourselves and Sars finished in the top two in this League with both promoted to Division 1 for next year. The Final was to determine which side would win the Mossy O Sullivan (St. Catherines) Memorial Cup. With many pitches closed at this time of the year neutral venues are hard to get so we travelled to Riverstown to play the match. The home team proved far too strong for our lads. We tried hard and hurled well but Sars had the ability to score point from all angles. They notched up a tally of 2 26 to our total of 4  5. Well done to our lads and mentors for a great unbeaten League Campaign all year.

Team v Sars; Frank Hogan, Tomas Kearney, Brian Collins, Jack Kearney, Barry Collins, Brendan Walsh, Adrian Buckley, Owen Murphy, James Murphy, Jason Pratt, Damien Buckley, Stephen Pratt, Jesse O Keeffe, Brendan O Driscoll, Sean Ryan, Colm Howard, Jacob Macek, Jack Connor, Jake Tobin, Brian Lahive, Stephen Boyce.

County  Titles.

Thanks to all those who sent messages of congratulations on our recent Under 16 and County Championship wins. We still have one more competition for the Minor Hurlers. We were due to play Cobh in the League Semi Final last weekend but Cobh were dually involved at under 16 and Junior Football. Both of those Cobh teams had a crossover with their Minor hurling team so the League semi final went off. This weekend Cobh are due to play the East Cork Junior C Hurling semi final replay v Killeagh so our game ius in doubt again. If it goes ahead the details will be sent by text. A special word of thanks to The Avondhu for the great coverage they have given us in recent weeks. It's been an unbelievably hectic busy three months for our Under 16 and Minor teams. The games they played were as follows; July 31st Minor C ship v Ballygarvan(H) Aug 14 U 16 league v Charleville(H) Aug 21 u16 FC  v Castlelyons

During this time we also had several under 14 games. We had under 14 players on the under 16 team and under 16 players on the Minor team so it was just game after game. Of course we complained from time to time about all the games but I can recall many a year in the 1970's,  1980's and 1990's when we were done and dusted in every single grade -adult and juvenile, by the end of August!. Truly these are the best of times and well done to all the players, parents, mentors and supporters. The crowd we had backing the teams in the recent games at Killeagh and Killavullen was huge, as was the support all year. We are in November but our Under 16's under 14's and Minor teams are still in competitions, well done to all concerned.
