Under Sixteen Teams Reach Two Finals...

It was a hectic week of games and Saturday was a real bumper day of action. On Saturday teams from Bride Rovers were on the playing fields in Pairc Ui Chaoimh, Riverstown, Thurles, Ballincollig and Rathcormac, what a day!

Rebel Og East U -16 Football Semi -Final.
Bride Rovers 4-08  Kilara Og 4-07
On Wednesday night we travelled to Kilworth for the replay of our championship game with the Kilworth/Araglen side. Two weeks ago we played out a drawn game in Rathcormac and the replay was under lights in Kilworth. With minor, under 14 and under 16 hurling -league and championship, games in the meantime we had  no football training done and faced a team who had trained hard for this game. What the  lads lacked in training they made up for in spirit. We started well and scored four early points but then Kilara struck for a goal. Shaun Knox was on the end of a great pass from Edmond Cashman who finished to the net. The teams exchanged scores for the remainder of the first half. We were three points up at half time. Midway through the second half Cian Hogan converted a penalty to double our lead to six. Kilara came back strongly to level the game and only for a brilliant save from Darragh they would have been ahead. Seamus Ahern was now at commanding midfield and the forwards were getting a good supply of ball.  Our lads worked very hard in possession  seeking a lead score as time ebbed away.  Edmond Cashman was going through and was fouled. Up stepped  Cian Hogan and sent the leather sailing between the posts to put us ahead. Form the kick-out the referee blew his whistle and we had won by  4 8 to  4 7 to reach another Final. We've had three games in this campaign defeating Castlelyons, and then drawing with Kilara Og and winning the replay.
We will play Fr O Neills in the Rebel Og Cork East Region Final at a date to be confirmed.

St. Colmans Win.

Well done to St. Colmans who earlier on Wednesday had a three point win over Blackwater College, Lismore in their first Harty Cup game of the season.

Young Rovers In Action.

We had Under 7, Under 8 and under 10 teams playing in various Blitz competitions on Saturday on what was a really hectic day for the next generations of Bride Rovers players. The different groups played in Thurles, Riverstown and Pairc UI Chaoimh.

At the very young age groups the idea is fun for all so that the skills can be developed in an enjoyable way. Keeping scores is not really important and everyone is a winner -there is no losers in these games.

The Under 7's were at a hurling Blitz at Sarsfields complex in Riverstown on Saturday  morning. We had 3 teams and played Sarsfields   and Midleton.  A great performance by all our young players

Our U8's finished off their series of football blitzes with a much anticipated trip to the new Astroturf facility in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. On the morning we had 25 players togged and fielded 3 teams. Each team played teams from Mayfield, Passage West and Duairgle Gaels. With their parents sitting in comfort in the great spectators gallery our lads showed some great skills, bravery and commitment. All were presented with medals after the hours football. In total there were 170 teams playing from 9:30 until the curtain dropped at 5:30. It really is a fantastic facility which our lads were delighted to play on. Next up is a hurling blitz next Saturday in the same location.
Special thanks to our 2 young referees Frank O'Flynn and Josh Ahern. Thanks also to the coaches on the day Vincey Cronin, Batt O'Connell, Paul O'Dowd, Richie Cahill, John Hurley and Jerome O'Driscoll. Thanks also to the Rebel Og GDAs who has it well organised and marshalled.
We'll be finishing up in the coming weeks for a well-deserved break...(for the coaches!!!!)

 Under 10's.

A great display to finish the season by our U10's representing Cork in the Munster U10 Blitz in Dr Morris Park Thurles Saturday morning.
They won all the matches in their group which was made up of Bride Rovers, Cork, Clooney-Quin ,Clare, Clonoulty Rossmore, Tipperary and  Stradbally, Waterford. Well done to all the lads who were in Thurles and to those that unfortunately couldn't make it  for their fantastic effort and commitment throughout the year. Incidentally Clooney-Quin's Senior team played a drawn game against Sixmilebridge in the Clare Senior Hurling Final on Sunday. Clooney-Quin last won the Clare SHC title 73 years ago -best of luck to them in the replay.

U16 Hurling

Bride Rovers 1-20  Aghabullogue 3  6.

It was high noon on Saturday when we faced the Mid Cork side Aghabullogue in the County Under 16 Hurling Championship semi final.  On a superb surface we started this game in whirlwind fashion and had five points in as many minutes. Cian struck two as well as white flags from Craig(free) Edmond and Kieran Kearney.  We were hurling superbly and with our defence ably marshalled by Paddy O Flynn we looked very comfortable. A somewhat fortunate goal for Aghabullogue brought them back onto the game. We played nervously for the next ten minutes and conceding another goal knocked us back. We thundered back into the game, Kieran pointed three 65s and Cian added three more. Then just before the short whistle Thomas Macek finished the sliotar to the net for a vital goal which gave us a good lead of 1  11 to 2 3 with Aghabullogue scoring just one of their points from play. We got the lads into the dressing rooms and told them to relax on the ball and enjoy themselves on the field. The second half saw all our backs get on top led by Paddy and John, Oisin, Ruairi Jacob and Michael defended brilliantly. Our forwards were now sending over some great points as we started to pull away. We introduced four subs and they all played very well which is going to make the team selection next day very hard.
What more can we say about these lads. Two semi finals in less than three days and two great victories. Thanks to everyone for the support we had which was brilliant for an early start on a Saturday morning
In the County Final we will meet our neighbours Fermoy again  at a date to be confirmed

County Football Finals.

Well done to Mallow on winning the Premier Intermediate Football championship at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday with a one point win over St. Michaels. Bride Rovers had a good representation on the day with Pa O Driscoll and James Bermingham running the line and James was stand-by referee and of course Raymond Hegarty was umpire -all involved with referee Conor Lane in the drawn Senior Final Nemo Rangers v St Finbarrs.

Congrats to James who has been appointed to referee the Replay of the Senior Final on Sunday next at 1 o clock. The Official Opening of the 'new Pairc' will be at 2.45 followed by Blackrock v Imokilly in the County Senior Hurling Final at 3.45pm. Best of luck to the Castlelyons, Lisgoold, St. Catherines and Watergrasshill players involved with Imokilly.

Well Done St. Catherines.

Congrats to St Catherines on reaching the County Junior Hurling Final last Friday night with a good win over Russell Rovers. They must now wait for Brian Dillons and Nemo Rangers to play the other semi final.
