Camogie success for Jen...On Sunday last in Croke Park Cork Senior Camogie team regained the Duffy Cup following an exciting one point win over Kilkenny while in the Intermediate final Cork & Meath must meet again. Our own Jennifer Barry played with the Intermediates and was part of the successful winning senior panel. This is a first time in our club history that a player from Bride Rovers has won an All-Ireland Senior medal and we are so proud of Jen. While Jen saw no action with the seniors on Sunday she was very prominient with Cork throughout the league and is a vital member of the Senior panel.

Jen Barry had an excellent game with the Intermediates as Cork avoided the heartbreak of defeat in the All-Ireland Intermediate Camogie final for a second successive year. The sides will do battle on 1 October for the Jack McGrath Cup after a tight and cagey contest finished level at 1-9 apiece. This time around, Cork let the victory slip, missing a number of chances to seal victory in a low-scoring second-half. They failed to put away the 2012 All-Ireland junior champions, with Keeva McCarrhy missing a couple of tricky frees in the final 10 minutes. A Jane Dolan free in the 62nd minute – her fifth of the day – secured another day out for Meath as they made full advantage of Cork being reduced to 14 players. Katelyn Hickey was dismissed on a second yellow card a minute earlier and Meath found just enough space to engineer a free, which Dolan duly converted. Each member of Cork’s potent full-forward line were off the mark inside the opening 10 minutes, but three frees from Jane Dolan had Meath within a point entering first-half stoppage-time. Cork were chasing their first title at this grade since 2006, having lost to Kilkenny by a point in last year’s decider. Meath had a perfect response after the break. They hit 1-1 two minutes after the restart, including a fine goal from Kristina Troy. The quality of the game dropped in the final quarter as both sides made a number of unforced errors. Then Hickey hit the net in the 31st minute to give Cork a four-point cushion at the break, 1-7 to 0-6. Cork edged back in front through Fionola Neville and Rachel O’Shea, but a brace of frees from Dolan saved the day for the Royals.

Scorers for Cork: Keeva McCarthy 0-3 (0-2f) and Rachel O’Shea 0-3 (0-1f), Fionola Neville, Linda Collins and Caroline Sugrue 0-1 each.

Scorers for Meath: Jane Dolan 0-5 (0-5f), Kiristina Troy 1-0, Sinead Hackett 0-2, Aoife Minogue 0-1 (0-1f), Amy Gaffney 0-1.

All Ireland U14 Camogie Blitz Cork U14 Camogie team lost out to Kilkenny in the final of the All-Ireland u14 Camogie Blitz which took place in Dublin last Saturday. Shauna Hayes from Bride Rovers was part of the Cork team and captained the side in a group game against Laois. Well done to Shauna who certainly has a bright future ahead with Cork Camogie.

U12 C County Football Semi Final Bride Rovers 3-8 vs Roscarberry 2-9.
We secured our place in the County U12s semi final for a second year running on a very wild & windy Balinora pitch on Saturday September 9th.  While we retained a lot of possession in the first half we failed to convert sufficiently, allowing Roscarberry a 4pt lead going in to half time.  From the start of the second half our players settled and adjusted to the windy conditions, keeping the balls low and hand passing more accurate.  The girls fought tirelessly in what seemed an unending battle, but with plenty coaching and encouragement from the mentors and side line we finished 2 points ahead due to the determination of our backs and the accuracy of our scorers.Panel:    E Diggan ,O Nagle, R Walsh, N Parle , A Mc Carthy, C Murphy, Abby Hoare, Lily Murray, C Morrison (3-2), A O Connell (0-1), Ava Barry (0-5) ,R Broderick, E Barry, M O Connell (Cpt) , S Buckley, Mai Cosgrove, A O Sullivan, A Kiely, A Dorgan, C Mohally, E Finn, F Meaney, S Birmingham, Ashling Hi Art, Eimear Ni Art.,E BartleyMentors : P Barry, T Broderick, M O Connell

On Monday evening, Bride Rovers U15 camogie team travelled to Erin's Own to play the home side in the East Cork Plate Final. From the get go, this was a very close encounter with both teams trading scores to make for a very exciting match. At half time, Bride Rovers led 2-3  to 2-1, our scores coming from Shauna Hayes, Abby Keating, Grace Dorgan and Caoimhe Hazelwood. The second half played out pretty much like the first but Erin's Own clawed back the deficit to make the game level at full time 4-3 apiece, our scores coming from Shauna and Caoimhe Barry. Despite the dusky evening, the teams were obliged to play five minutes aside extra time. Bride Rovers got off to a great start with an early and impressive goal from Chloe Murphy followed by a point from Shauna. However, the home side scored a goal and three points, and won by a narrow margin of just two points.
