Under 21's lose out in Local Derby Thriller.

It's not much consolation to our lads but last Sunday's East Cork under 21 A grade Hurling Final was one of the best games seen in the Division this year. It was high scoring affair with Castlelyons winning in the end by a margin of 7 points, 4 15 to 3  11. We can look back on a number of goal scoring chances we missed but great credit to the Castlelyons goalie J.P . Murphy. Castlelyons had the aid of the very strong wind and started in lightning fashion with an early goal. Brian Roche replied with a green flag for us as the game turned into a feast of scores. Using the wind Castlelyons hit some great points but we replied with scores from Wm Finnegan -2 from 65's, 2 points from Brian Roche and a pointed free from Conor Barry. The dismissal of Team Captain Wm. Finnegan was a huge blow to our hopes of a first under 21 title in twenty years.  We trailed by six points, 1  11 to 1 5 at the break which was a good position to be in considering the strength of the breeze. Early in the second half we had the margin down to 2 but disaster struck .In a scoring blitz Castlelyons hit three goals to put daylight between the teams. In fairness our lads battled hard but as the game went on the numerical disadvantage proved crucial. A Cian O Connor goal  was well struck but in the end we lost out by a margin of seven points. It was a huge disappointment because we had tremendous victories over Aghada and Watergrasshill in the earlier games. Congrats to Castlelyons and best of luck in the County campaign and it wouldn't surprise me to see the County Cup in this competition returning to Castlelyons later in the season.

Rebel Óg North Under 16 Hurling Championship Semi -Final.
Bride Rovers 2-18--Ballyhea 3-08
Kildorrery was the setting for this semi final on Monday September the 11th. On a wet and windy night we played Ballyhea for a place in the North Region Final. In the  first half we got off to a mighty start and were ahead by  1 2 to 0 1 after five minutes. Playing against the wind we seemed slow to every ball our first touch seemed to have disappeared. Approaching half time we were 8 points  3 5 to   1  2 down but we got 2 frees to cut the lead down to two goals 3-5 to 1-5 at half time.  At the break we didn't have to say much to the boys as they knew themselves that they hadn't hurled like they could have. We made a few changes in positions and they came out a different team. Driven on by some inspirational points from Cian Hogan the whole team lifted their performance. We scored 1-13 in the second half compared to the oppositions three points. Team captain Patrick O Flynn encouraged every player on the field and it worked. We will now meet Fermoy in the final to be played on tonight Thursday September the 14th  at 6.30, the  venue to be confirmed. It would be nice to see a big Rovers following for these boys to drive them on. We recently played Fermoy in the League semi final  which we won by a single point

UNDER 8 Activities.

The U8 boys have had an active few weeks participating in blitzes in Aghada, Kildorrery and most recently least weekend  Kilworth. We had 21 boys tog out for this hurling blitz which enabled us to enter 3 teams. As usual we had 3 games for each team and were competitive throughout the mornings competition. The development in skill and confidence throughout this group of players has been great to see.

The blitzes will continue until early October so plenty of hurling and football action left. Many thanks to all in Kilworth for the mighty feed after the blitz.

MINORS IN EAST REGION FINAL.

Our Minor hurlers are through to the Rebel Óg Minor Hurling Championship Final. After a hard fought win in the first round v Ballygarvan we faced St Catherines in the semi final in Castlelyons last week. Local derbies are always fraught with danger so we went into this game in a cautious frame of mind. It was tit for tat early on before our lads took over and our forwards started to combine well and get some great scores. We got very well in command in nearly every position and scored a comfortable victory by 6 20 to 2 17.

This victory puts us into the East Cork Final on this coming Saturday September the 16th in Rostellan at 3.45. Our opponents will be the very fancied Cobh team who defeated combination side St. Colmans in their semi final. It's fierce pressure on the lads many of whom played the u 16 semi final Monday night, u 16 final a tonight , the Minor Final Saturday and the Minor F championship next Monday night.  Best of luck lads in all these games, go for it. The Minor Football championship on Monday night is against Slievrue, with no venue fixed at the time of writing.

Junior C Hurling Championship.
As it stands the first  round of the Junior C Hurling championship in East Cork is fixed for Sunday weekSeptember 24th. The game is v Lisgoold with no venue yet fixed.

Well done Saints.

Congratulations to St Catherines on their victory in the East Cork Final last Saturday evening. The game was in Midleton. Played before a huge crowd it wasn't a classic game of hurling by any means but victory gave St Catherines the custody of the Jamesy Kelleher Cup for the fourth time in their history. Best of luck to St Catherines and Russell Rovers in the County Championship which for the first time ever will be contested by both Divisional winners and runners up.

Hard Luck Ballyhooley.

'To win just once' was a big hit for the Saw Doctors a few years back and when Emmett O Riordan's goal put Ballyhooley ahead deep into injury time in last Sunday evening's North Cork JHC Final it seemed that the victory was there's for a historic first time. Unfortunately there was another twist with Dromina snatching the title with a late, late goal. Ballyhooley will still go into the County JHC and we wish them all the best on Saturday against Clonakilty in Blarney.
