Cork Minors Pipped..

At Croke Park on Sunday the Cork Minor Hurlers lost out in the All Ireland Final. Galway emerged as victors by a two point margin. It was a game of 'what ifs', if Cork hadn't a goal disallowed, if we had converted just two of the missed chances and so on. Cork had dream start with early goals. They shocked Galway but gradually the Westerners came more into the game and were only three points in arrears by half time. In the second half the hurling was fast and furious with Galway going into the lead. Cork had several good chances for scores but just failed to bridge the gap. It was a major disappointment for all the lads involved and the team mentors who have been training  since last January. Our two players Brian and Eoin Roche have been magnificent all year for Club, College, Cork under 17's and Cork Minors and they have been brilliant ambassadors for their Club and Family. Of course the lads will be sad at losing the Final last Sunday but they can hold their heads high. They displayed great hurling traits in every game they played all during the past season. To play in Croke Park on three Sundays was no mean feat so well done lads.

2017 saw Cork Hurling teams win Munster Titles at under 17, Minor and Senior level. The Under 17's went on to win the All Ireland title so hopefully the future is bright.

Cork Minors Down the Years.

Down the years we've had different players on the Cork Minor Hurling team. These included Tom Heskin (Capt), Mossy Collins, Jack Barry Bride St, Jimmy O Brien, Jim Murphy Main St, Ml. Murphy Main St, Jimmy O Brien, Seanie Barry, Maurice Hazlewood, Niall Fitzgerald and Brian Murphy. There is a great sense of pride throughout the parish that the names of Brian and Eoin Roche have been added to that list.

Sympathy.

We extend our deepest sympathy to the Foley family in Glenville on the unexpected death of Rosarie on Monday last. Rosarie was the daughter of the late Tom Heskin and his wife Eily, Bride St, Rathcormac. We also extend deepest sympathy to Mossy, Sarah and James Barry on the death of Mary (nee Daly) at the weekend.

U21 Final on Sunday

In Lisgoold next Sunday we play Castlelyons in the East Cork Under 21 A Grade hurling Final. This should be a cracker of a game between two local teams. We defeated Aghada in the first round and Watergrasshill in the semi final. To reach the final Castlelyons have accounted for Youghal and Carrigtwohill. With many of our players involved at Minor level and the Roche twins with the Cork U 17 and Minor teams it's been hard to get the team together but training has been good in recent weeks. Brian Murphy and his backroom team have put a lot of work into this team so we are hoping for a good display on Sunday. The game is timed for 2 o clock so let's have plenty vocal support for this team on Sunday. Go for it lads.

Waterford lose

In a unique 'first time ever' All Ireland Senior Hurling Final in Croke Park last Sunday Galway had 3 points to spare over Waterford. The 29 year famine ended but the 58 year long famine still goes on. For former Club Chairman Billy Finnegan and former Club Hurler Joe Daniels it was a day of joy. For Waterford the wait goes on.

U16 Hurling

U-16A North Hurling league Semi-final   Bride Rovers 3-11 ---  Fermoy 2-12
Last Thursday  we played our neighbours Fermoy in the league Semi -final in Glanworth. It was Fermoy who got the better start and we were down by 5 points after six minutes. We regrouped with a few changes. Our forwards  a few points and we scored  goals from Tomas Macek and Edmund Cashman. When we got into our stride we played with typical Rovers pride and spirit. The game was played at a hectic pace. In the second half our lads were getting tired but we played some great stuff and  won by 2 points.

U-16 A North Hurling Championship
Bride Rovers 3-20  -- Charleville 0-6
On Monday evening  we were again on our travels this time to Kildorrery where we faced Charleville. This game was not as intense or as physical as the league game. We were on top from start to finish with some great scores from all over the field.  We will face a stiffer challenge next week where we will play Ballyhea.
These were two great wins for a good bunch of lads Panel for both games.

Under 14 Hurlers Beaten.

We lost the under 14 Hurling Championship game last week to Blarney. The game was played in the Delaneys pitch and while we were very disappointed to lose the game the worst feature of the night was the injury to Adam Hayes. Adam suffered a broken leg in the game after a heavy tackle from the Blarney goalie. We send our best wishes for a full and speedy recovery to Adam who has been a star for us in all grades. Team v Blarney; DO Sullivan, A O Sullivan, L Collins, J Powell, D Barry, C Hazlewood 1 0, N Kelleher, C Tobin 0 1, R O Connell, J Ahern, A Walsh 0 5, E Buckley, A Hayes, E Cashman 2 5, T Seweryn,  D Cashman 0 1.

Under 13 Football League Final.

On Saturday week in Macroom we were pipped at the post by Bantry Blues in Under  13 League Final. Having led by 6 points at half time Bantry took over in the second half to lead by a single point near the end. The width of the crossbar denied us victory when a shot from Josh Ahern rebounded off the woodwork right at the end of a great game. We went into the game without the services of the injured duo of Adam Hayes and Conor Hazlewood Team' L Roche, A O Sullivan, L Collins, E O Connor, C O Sullivan, D Barry, D Cashman, C Tobin 0 1 , R O Connell, N Kelleher, J Ahern,  T Seweryn 0 2 , R O Callaghan, A Walsh 3 3, F O Flynn.  Training continues on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Best Wishes

We extend best wishes to the St Catherines Junior Hurling team who contest the 2017 East Cork JHC Final in Midleton next Saturday evening against Russell Rovers.
