Under 21’s and Minors in Action..

This will be a busy weekend with double championship action and an All Ireland semi final as well.

All Ireland Under 17 Semi Final.

On tonight Thursday July 27th the Cork under 17 hurling team take on Galway in the All Ireland semi final in Thurles. With this being the last year of the Minor Grade at under 18 level it was decided to run an under 17 championship this year to facilitate players who otherwise might not get a chance to play inter-county hurling. Cork had a great Munster campaign beating Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford to claim the provincial crown. Bride Rovers duo Brian and Eoin Roche have been integral members of the team and we wish the boys and all their Cork colleagues the very best. Sometimes Galway teams suffer from having little or no competition in Connacht but under-age hurling is very strong in the West so a great game is expected in Semple Stadium, Thurles at 7.30pm.

Under 21 and Minor Hurling.

On Saturday night we face Aghada in the first round of the East Cork under 21 HC. Having won a County MHC title two years ago the Aghada side will provide stiff opposition. We will field a very young side overall but we have some fine hurlers in the side. At the time of writing no venue has been fixed. Then on Monday night next at Mayfield we face Ballygarvan in the RebelOg Minor Hurling championship. We’ve had some good results in the Minor Hurling League but so too have our opposition. Many of the same players will be involved with both teams so best of luck lads on both nights.

Under 12 Hurlers Retain Cup.

Last year our under 12 hurling team were invited to Araglin to play in a  tournament for the Jimmy Myles Cup. We won the trophy so last Saturday we were back where ‘the three counties meet’ to defend the title. The Tournament was part of the famous and long-running Araglin Carnival.  The lads produced a  brilliant team effort and great  display of hurling in  retaining the cup. Years back Carnival and Festival Tournament games were the life and soul of summer time for most rural GAA Clubs and it’s great to see the tradition continued in Araglin.  After a superb game we beat Ballyduff in the semi-final  on a score line of 4:5 to 1:2 . Then we faced the home side Killara Og in the final and won  on a score line of 3:10 to :7, well done to all the lads involved.,
a sincere ‘Thank you’ to all those involved with Araglin who provided refreshments after the games.

CLUB LOTTO.The Jackpot for Tuesday July 18th was EU13,200, the four numbers drawn were 10,14,16 and 29 and there was no winner. The winners of30 each were Mai Browne, ark Troy, Kevin O Keeffe –all Bartlemy, Ned Fitzgerald, Castlelyons and Jack O Dowd Rathcormac.

The Jackpot for Tuesday July 25th was 13,400.

 GREAT GAA WEEKEND IN CORK.

It was a historic weekend for Cork GAA with the staging of the 2 All Ireland Hurling quarter finals in the new Pairc Ui Chaoimh. For county Board Chairman Gerard lane it was both a dream come true and years of very hard work. In recent months when the pressure was on, Ger was in the Pairc as often as at home. The stadium is magnificent and a tribute to all involved.

TONY WALSH TOURNAMENT.

We hope to play the annual Tony Walsh Tournament on Saturday August 12th. Full details later.

UNDER13 and 14 REPORT.

It’s football championship time this weekend for our under 13 team. On Saturday they face St. Nicks in the semi final of the Premier 2 championship in our main pitch at 3 o clock.

CORK V WATERFORD.

Well it will be real local derby in Croke Park on Sunday August 13th in the All Ireland semi final. A tough task for Cork to beat the same team twice in the same year in a major game. The build up by Bride and Blackwater should be mighty.
