Bride Rovers Senior Ladies Footballers defeated Fermoy in the first round of the Cork Ladies Football Championship on Thursday last in Rathcormac. This was a great game of football played to a high itensity by both teams. The Rovers opened the scoring with points from Grace Culloty & Grace Kearney. Fermoy opened their account with a point before Katie Quirke finished a great move to the net. Fermoy's response was immediate, a strong run by Aisling Hutchings leading to a goal for Fermoy. From here til half time both sides swapped points and were level on 4 occassions, the Rovers points coming from Grace Kearney, Grace Culloty, Emma Roche & Katie Quirke with a pointed free. At half time we held a slender lead, 1-08 to 1-07. On the resumption the Rovers defence tightened up to reduce Fermoy's scoring chances while at the other end the Rovers forwards picked off some great points to extend our lead. Withe the Rovers leading 2-16 to 2-10 following Katie Quirke's second goal, Fermoy staged a comeback and attacked the Rovers rearguard.
