Hurling Fest..
What a hurling week it was for the Club on many fronts as our ancient game in all it's splendour was on show. In Thurles, Shanagarry, Rathcormac, Celbridge and Pairc Ui Rinn Bride Rovers were well represented over the last seven days. On the adult Club playing front it was quiet enough with just one game, a JHL Div 3 game. The minors were to have had a football game but circumstances changed that. The Juvenile Club had a hectic few days with some great wins, capturing silverware home and away. With the Cork Minors in action twice it was a fantastic time for the Roche twins, Brian and Eoin.
Under 14's Win Theresa Walsh Trophy.
Last Saturday July 1st was an emotional day for the Walsh family of Ballinakilla, Bartlemy. Just a year ago Theresa Walsh died after a long illness. She was a stalwart of her family and of the Club. As a follower, supporter and mother and grandmother of Bride Rovers players the GAA was so much part of Theresa's life. In her memory the Walsh family presented the Club with a Trophy to be competed for at Juvenile level each year. Last Saturday Bride Rovers, St. Catherines, Ballyduff and Castlelyons took part in the Tournament. Four great games were witnessed. Bride Rovers defeated St Catherines in the first semi final then Castlelyons got the better of Ballyduff. Next p was the plate final a 'local derby' affair in which St Catherines defeated Ballyduff. In the Tournament Final our lads played great hurling. Edmond Cashman repeated his semi final goal scoring and two more green flags from Evan Buckley and Conor Hazlewood saw us run out good winners. It was a great day for our u 14 team, parents and mentors. For the Walsh family; a very proud day because the way Theresa lived matches and hurling were so much part of her life she would want to be remembered wherever players tog out in the green, white and gold of Bride Rovers. Gerard Lane spoke on behalf of the club at the Trophy and Medal presentation. He spoke of the huge contribution the Walsh family have made to Bride Rovers and said this Tournament was a great tribute to Theresa Walsh a great GAA person. Fittingly the Captain of the Bride Rovers team was Adam Walsh Theresa's grandson and Pat Walsh presented the cup on behalf of the family. Thanks to all the teams, our two referees James and Pa and all who helped with the catering on the day and above all the Walsh family.
Earlier in the week the under 14 team lost a very tight game to Midleton by a point in the Premier HL., final score Midleton 1 8 Bride Rovers 1 7.
The next under 14 game is on next Monday night July 10th, away to Erins Own in Football at 7.30pm.
CELBRIDGE PROVINCIAL UNDER 11 HURLING TOURNAMENT.
Bride Rovers under 11's travelled to Celbridge GAA in Kildare last Saturday to participate in their annual under 11 hurling tournament.
The days engagements began with a game against the host club Celbridge, our lads showed no ill effects from the long journey up and making good use of the blustery conditions got off to the proverbial flyer with a few quick scores to settle themselves into the game, in the second half the Rovers dug in and defended both their lead and their goal against the expected onslaught.
Final score Celbridge 0-07 Bride Rovers 6-05
With only a ten- minute turnaround the Rovers faced their second opponents, Naomh Barrog.
The Dubliners proved to be a tougher nut to crack, and in a low scoring game where wind advantage was negated by superb defending by both sides, it seemed a battling draw was on the cards, however Naomh Barrog flashed over a point with what proved to be the final stroke of the game to claim the spoils by the minimum. Final score Naomh Barrog 1-07 Bride Rovers 2-03
Bloodied but unbowed the lads quickly regrouped to face their next opponents, Na Piarsaigh Tourin (Co. Westmeath)
Another quick start ensued with a couple of green flags raised early to set the tone, and although Na Piarsaigh pressed hard all eleven Bride Rovers men worked tirelessly to keep the Westmeath lads at arms length and cement a final berth
Final score Bride Rovers 7-02 Na Piarsaigh 1-01
Then finally the last match of the day, standing between Bride Rovers and the shield were the East Clare combination team Feakle/Killanena.
Having lost the toss the Rovers lads faced into the windy and wet conditions for the first half and in what proved to be a highly entertaining and skill laden first period the Rovers emerged ahead in the tit for tat exchanges. With the wind to their backs and a determination that the shield would accompany them south that evening, the lads proceeded to turn in a superb display in the second half
Final score Bride Rovers 5-09 Feakle/Killanena 3-01
A special word of thanks must go to former Bride Rovers player Ciaran O'Donovan and Celbridge GAA for the invite, to the mentors and especially the parents who all travelled up to make it such a memorable day.

CORK MINORS.
What a week it's been for Cork minor hurlers. Last Thursday they drew with Tipp in Thurles after extra time. Then on Monday night in a thrilling replay in Pairc Ui Rinn they won by three points. Starring on both nights were our own Brian and Eoin Roche. We wish them and all the Cork players the very best on Sunday next when they face Clare as part of a Double Rebel v Banner feast of hurling in Semple Stadium once more. It was mighty to see literally hundreds from the parish at both games. Hope we all get tickets for Sunday!
