Senior Hurlers Defeat Newtownshandrum...

Our Senior Hurlers played Newtwonshandrum in Pairc na Bride last Saturday evening at 5pm. Played on a splendid surface in ideal conditions, with a fresh breeze blowing toward the Main road, it was Newtownshandrum’s second visit to Rathcormac in a week as they had played Na Piarsaigh in the Senior Hurling Championship the previous Sunday. It was a similar story last Saturday as they went home empty handed losing on a scoreline of 2-16 to 0-15. Both teams were short some regulars but this in no way took from the quality of the game and a fine game of hurling ensued

Newtown played with the breeze and took some early scores but the rovers kept in touch with their own points, Barry Johnson, Shane Walsh Daniel Dooley and Stephen Glasgow being particularly prominent and were level on 3 occasions. The major score came on the 25th minute when a long ball into the Newtown square resulted in scrambled goal by Richard Whitty. The half time score was 1-7 to 0-8 in our favour. On the changeover we were quickly into our stride and dominated around the middle with plenty supply of ball to our inside trio of Ryan Prendergast, Stephen Hackett, Richard Whitty. We added a few scores from Ml Collins Cian O Connor and Daniel Dooley to pull ahead and a goal from Stephen Hackett sealed the two points and a victory over the North Cork boys for the second year in a row.

Team Dinny Fitzgerald ,Tadhg O Sullivan Liam Forde, Shane Kearney, Damian Buckley, Brian Murphy, Shane Walsh, Stephen Glasgow, Cian O Connor, Barry Johnson, Daniel Dooley, Michael Collins, Ryan Prendergast, Richard Whitty, Stephen Hackett.
