Senior Ladies v Inch Rovers
On Monday night last our Seniors travelled to Killeagh to take on Inch Rovers in the Division 1A Football League. With poor weather conditions, it was difficult to play good football. In the first half we played against the strong wind and at half time were only 4 points down. Our goalis & defence played very well in curtailing the Inch Forwards and were well supported by our midfield pairing of Eleanor Ahern & Jennifer Barry. We also created ample opportunities to be closer on the scoreboard too.
However in the second half we failed to take advantage of the wind and a early goal by Inch spurred them on to victory on a scoreline of 3-12 to 1-04.
Team: C.Vaughan, E.Larkin, E.Collins, M.Hartnett, A.O'Riordan, L.Quirke (capt.), N.Barry, E.Ahern, J.Barry, C.Hogan, G.Culloty, J.O'Riordan, T.O'Sullivan, K.Quirke, G.Kearney. Subs used: J.Cahill, E.Roche, E.Culloty, I.Dorgan & K.Connor.
Seniors are out again on this Thursday against St. Vals at 7.30pm in Rathcormac.
Juniors narrowly defeated
On Sunday morning last in Rathcormac our Juniors were narrowly defeated by a highly fancied Banteer side on a scoreline of 3-11 t0 2-09. Playing with the wind in the opening half the Rovers took the game to Banteer and two goals from Imelda Dorgan and Elaine Culloty had the Rovers in front at half time 2-05 to 0-05. However playing against the wind the Rovers defence was now under pressure and despite some brave defending and the excellence of Erin O'Keeffe in goals, Banteer began to get the scores, eventually winning by 3-11 to 2-09.
Team: E.O'Keeffe, C.Hickey, A.O'Riordan, K.Connor, M.Hazelwood, E.O'Keeffe, S.O'Sullivan, T.O'Sullivan, K.Kelleher, E.Roche, L.Pratt, E.Culloty, I.Dorgan, E.Hazelwood & C.Ahern.
On Tuesday last, our U14 ladies football team played at home to Rockban in the semi final of the East Cork League. Rockban took an early lead with two quick goals and from there on in it was always going to be an uphill battle for the home side. To give them their due, Bride Rovers fought extremely hard. They competed strongly for every ball and had great passing moving going forward. The Rockban goalkeeper was under constant pressure and the home side were unlucky not to convert more scores. At the other end of the pitch, our defence and goalkeeper were very strong and worked tirelessly but Rockban notched up the scores and were the winners by a comprehensive margin at the final whistle. Well done to the Bride Rovers panel who numbered an impressive 24 on the day and everyone played a part, giving 100% in terms of spirit and work rate.
On Sunday afternoon, the u14 ladies football team met Mayfield in the East Cork League D final. Both teams had met previously in the league and Bride Rovers had won that encounter by just two points so it was obviously going to be a close match. Playing with the wind in the first half, Bride Rovers took the lead with two early goals from Shauna and additional scores from Leah (1-1) and Caoimhe Barry (1-0) put them ahead by seven points at half time. However, it was going to an uphill battle to maintain this lead as Mayfield now had the wind in the second half. As predicted, they scored three goals in quick succession and there were just two points dividing the sides with twenty minutes to go. For the remainder of the game, the teams traded scores, our scores coming from Ava (1-0), Shauna (0-2), Leah (0-1) and Caoimhe Barry (0-1). At the final whistle, however, Mayfield were the victorious team by a two point margin 6-5 to 5-6. Well done to Bride Rovers who played extremely well but it just wasn't their day. On the plus side, based on their excellent performance in the league, the team will progress to the County Championships and we wish them all the best in that competition.
