On Sunday afternoon, the u14s travelled to Mayfield to play their second match in the East Cork League. It was an extremely windy day and the conditions underfoot were not great but both teams worked extremely hard and did their best in difficult circumstances. Bride Rovers led at half time (4-4 to 2-0) but the score did not really reflect the game as both sides were quite evenly matched. As expected, Mayfield came out stronger in the second half and notched up 2-8 to Bride Rovers' 2-0, thus bridging the gap to just 2 points with Bride Rovers the eventual winners on a score line of 6-4 to 4-8. Well done to both sides on what was a close and hard fought game.

Laura Wins with WIT
Last weekend was a great weekend for the club and especially for Laura Quirke who won the Lynch Cup for 3rd Level College Ladies Football with Waterford I.T. In Westport defeating Dublin I.T. on a scoreline of 1-17 to 2-09.
It was a very exciting weekend of football, WIT played UUJ (Ulster Universitiy) on Saturday in the semi-final and at one staged trailed by 9 points, but a last minute penalty sealed the win on a scoreline of 2-08 to 2-07. In the final WIT started very strongly and at half time led by 1-14 to 0-03 but DIT staged a comeback in the second half. However WIT held out to win this All-Ireland Colleges title. Well done Laura.

Juniors defeat Mallow
On sunday morning our junior ladies team travelled to Mallow to take on the local side in our first league game of the year, promoted up to Division 4B this year, we can expect some tough games in this competition.
The team lined out with a nice mix of youth & experience and perhaps it was that mix that got us over the line by a single point.
From the off we were under pressure as Mallow dominated the early exchanges, and duly registered the first 3 pints of the game, this could have being a whole lot more but for the outstanding saves made by Sarah Murphy in goal and the heroic blocking by Emily Larkin, Rachel O'Flynn and Mary Hazelwood. Gradually we came into the game and Katie kelleher pointed two frees to reduce the deficit to a point. A goal by Mallow increased their lead again but Bride Rovers fought back with points from Elaine Culloty and Meg Kelleher. A great move involving Anna Greaney, Siobhan O Sullivan and Jess O'Riordan setup Meg Kelleher who scored a cracking goal but the referee called back play for a Rover free.
Half time score Bride Rovers 0-04 Mallow 1-05.
The Rovers were now beginning to dominate the game, Aislinn O Connor was going well at midfield with plenty support from Aoife O Riordan and Emma Barry, The Rovers forwards were now getting on top and Mel Dorgan scored a great goal, Elaine Culloty kicked a point and Katie Kelleher scored the Rovers second goal. Points from Lucy Hicks, Aislinn O Connor and Mary Hazelwood had Rovers in front 2-08 to 1-05. But Mallow struck back and scored three goals in quick succession to take the lead again. The Rovers showed great character in coming back and outscored Mallow 1-02 to 0-02 in those final few minutes, Laura Pratt grabbing the all important goal with a super strike.
Final Score Bride Rovers 3-11 Mallow 4-07
Well done to Anna Greaney who played very well in her first game for the club and also to Jessica O'Riordan who returned to the club. Also well done to the young girls on the team making their debut at adult level.
