Red FM Senior League on Sunday...

How time flies, on Sunday next  we commence our fourteenth season in Senior Hurling ranks. It doesn't seem so long ago when  we were trying to endeavour to win the East Cork Junior B Grade Hurling championship  title with our first team!  The 2017 RED FM Senior Hurling League gets underway for us on Sunday. The League has been utterly changed this year with, initially two series of group games. Our first game is a home tie v Newtownshandrum at 12 noon in Pairc na Bride.

Please come along to encourage the lads as they set out on a new campaign which hopefully will bring success.

 ST COLMANS IN ACTION.

After the heavy defeat to Templemore on the Harty Final St. Colmans hurlers are back in action on Saturday next. They meet St Bridgids of Loughrea Co. Galway in the All Ireland quarter-final -no time or venue were known at the time of writing. Best of luck to all the lads.

FAREWELL SEPTEMBER SUNDAYS IN DUBLIN.

For those of us who have grown up, been reared on and grown old with the GAA as a centrepiece of our lives things were changed, changed utterly at Congress last weekend. The tradition of two Sundays each year, the first and third being earmarked for the All Ireland Finals will be gone after next year. For 113 years September and Irish sport meant the Hurling and Football Finals and it didn't really matter whether Cork were involved or not these were very special days. The summer was nearly over, the autumn coming in and the highlights of the Gaelic games inter county year were here.  I just don't know what's coming over our great Association, is nothing special, nothing sacred, nothing precious to us anymore?  From next year on we will have inter-county games from May until August and nothing else -especially on Television and then for 7 months we'll have nothing. From a Club point of view I feel it's a disaster. Basically the GAA is telling Club players 'let ye play league games during the long summer days of May, June, July and August and then when the summer's gone ye can start the championships'. They say we are a great democratic organization but sometimes I do really wonder if those in Croke Park are now more concerned with selling a 'product' to media organizations than promoting hurling and football.

Twitter and Website.

So many people at home and abroad are now very hi-tech when it comes to keeping in touch with the activities of the Bride Rovers Club. The online editions of newspapers are growing in popularity. Meanwhile you can follow the Club on twitter at twitter@ BrideRoversGAA or on our own website at www.briderovers.ie  Any news items or general items of interest are very welcome for inclusion and can be sent to Gerard Lane.

Bride Rovers Juvenile club Notes.

The Annual Social and presentation of medals took place last Saturday night in the Rathcormac Inn. It was a great night with special guest Cork goalie Anthony Nash doing the honours. In next weeks edition we will have pictures and full details.

On the night a special presentation was made to Trish O Flynn. Over the last few years Trish has done Trojan work for the Juvenile Club. She has been involved at all levels with every age group but her work with the CUL camps has been phenomenal. She has worked behind the scene over the years organising these annual Gaelic Games camps and the dedication and effort she has put in has been far beyond the call of duty. A huge amount of detail goes into the camps and Trish has been selfless in this task. The special presentation  made to Trish on Saturday night was made by Paddy Hynes and Anthony Nash. Thank you so much Trish for all your work and help.

Under 13 Football.

On Saturday last our under 13 football team took on Ballygarvan in the Premier 2 League. The game was played in Crosshaven. The team gave a brilliant combined effort and had a great win on a scoreline of 11- 10 to 2 1. Their next game is on this Saturday March 4th v Ballinora, at home (Main field or Pynes depending on weather)

Because of the St Colmans game our under 16 game v Castlelyons is postponed.

Training for under 7s starts on Saturday March 11th from 10 to 11 and for under 6's and under 8's the following Saturday March 18th. New Young Rovers are very welcome to join our club and learn to play and enjoy hurling and football.
