MINORS LOSE OUT IN EXTRA TIME THRILLER.

Over the last few seasons our under 15 and under 16 and Minor hurling teams have been involved in some fantastic games. They have captured league and championship trophies but above all else they have shown fierce determination and great skill and passion in these games. The County Minor Hurling League semi final against Killavullen in Kilworth on last Saturday was another game that had everything but on this occasion we lost out to a very fine Killavullen side. At stages during the first half it looked as though we might be overwhelmed by the North Cork side but our lads came right back into the game displaying the battling qualities which have been their trademark. With the influential Brian Roche an absentee due to a hand injury and facing an older and stronger side we were under pressure from the start. We soaked up early pressure before DJ Cahill opened the scoring with a fine point after five minutes. Killavullen responded in style and scored 1 3 in a devastating six minute spell. On the quarter hour mark Jesse sent over a point and after Killavullen got their fourth point Conleith raised a white flag for us to leave it 1 4 to 0 3 after twenty minutes. Two points on the trot from Jesse brought our tally to 5 as the game went into first half added time. Disaster struck then in the 32nd minute when Killavullen added a second goal to make it 2 5 to 0 5. Down by six points was tough because we had come back well into the game after Killavullen's good start. The second half was a thriller as we bravely began to get a hold of the game.  Two goals from  Jesse and Kieran Kearney ensured a cracking finish as Killavullen held on to a 2 12 to 2  10 lead but two late points from Captain Jesse saw the game end as a draw 2 12 apiece. Great credit to the lads for such a performance. On then to extra time. Jesse gave us the lead for the very first time in the first ten minute 'half'' , we could have gone further ahead but for a few wides. Killavullen came again and finished the contest strongly with a goal in the second period to win by 3 19 to 2 16 after a great game.. It was disappointing to lose but what a display. Killavullen are a fine team with some great hurlers and we wish them a;; the best in the Co. League Final.  Team. D. Browne, P O Flynn, J. O Sullivan, C. Coleman, J. Connor, S O Connor, E. Roche, G.
