Its Bride Rovers v Douglas in the SHC..

After all the waiting our County Senior Hurling Championship game goes ahead this coming Saturday evening. We defeated Youghal and Avondhu in early summer and then as a result of getting a bye to the quarter final it's only now we play our third game in the 2016 County Senior Hurling Championship. Douglas will be the opposition after they got the better of the students of CIT in Pairc Ui Rinn on Saturday night last. In the end Douglas won by a point after a game where CIT looked likely  winners for most of the hour. At one stage Douglas were six points in arrears playing against the wind but they came back in the second half to go ahead at the right time, just before the final whistle. The fact that Douglas have had three championship games since we last played should benefit them. With Cork senior players Alan Cadogan and Stephen Moylan in their team they will be very strong opposition. We have had plenty Senior League games with some fine wins to put us on top of the Leaguer table but League and Championship are poles apart. It must be said that our lads have given huge commitment this season. They have been hurling well and with confidence. Undoubtedly Douglas will be a big step up from our previous championship games. This is the quarter final of the Cork County Senior Hurling championship so no game is easy at this a stage of the competition. We should travel to Pairc Ui Rinn on Saturday knowing that we are capable of winning but realising to do so every player has to be in flying form. The Club and Parish are behind this team and management so best of luck lads, go for it in a big way. Te game is timed for 6.15 in Pairc Ui Rinn on Saturday evening.

 LEAGUE WIN FOR JUNIOR C's

Our Junior C team travelled to Ballinacurra on Sunday morning for an East Cork Div 3 JHL game against the home side. After a  good game we came out as winners by a margin of four points on a scoreline of 1 16 to 2 9. However we suffered a few injuries to players During the game and this is a worry as we expect to be playing Cobh in the JCHC next Sunday.

The Championship game v Cobh is provisionally fixed for next Sunday Sept 11th probably at 6 o clock. The fixture will be confirmed later this week. Best of luck lads in this game against Cobh's second team.

1966 TEAM REUNION ON FRIDAY NIGHT.

On this coming Friday night Sept. 9th we are holding a reunion of the Bride Rovers Junior Hurling team of fifty years ago. In 1966 that team won the East Cork Junior B hurling Championship. They defeated Dungourney, St Catherines and Youghal in the Final. It was a great achievement as the Club had only been reformed in late 1964. Three members of the panel Tony O Brien, Tony Walsh and Michael Twomey have gone to their eternal reward and will be fondly remembered on the night. The other members of the panel are Willie Sheehan captain, Seanie Barry Vice Captain, Derry Cotter, Willie Cotter, John Fitzgerald, Denis Canty, Tom O Riordan, Gerard Barry, Henry Hazlewood, Paudie Murphy, Sean Murphy, John Meade, Batty Hogan, Tim Maher, Michael Murphy, Eddy Barry, John Gettings, Pat Hoskins, John Meade, Eamonn Hoskins and Billy O Connell. The selectors were the late Dave Hogan, Dinny Howard and Joe Browne. We hope to see many of these great men on Friday night and a general invitation is extended to everyone to come along at 8pm to the Rathcormac Inn

CORK CAMOGIE.

Next Sunday is Camogie All Ireland Sunday with Cork and Kilkenny meeting in both the Intermediate and Senior Finals. Our own Jennifer Barry captains the Intermediate side with Mossy O Sullivan part of the backroom squad. Best of luck to all concerned and safe travelling to all who will be heading to Croke Park from the parish.

TIPPERARY CHAMPIONS.

Well Tipp did it on Sunday last and all the Tipperary people in the parish are rejoicing on their great double while the Kilkenny folk in our midst are already planning the next victory. It was a grand game of hurling played as the game should be played.

MUD RUN.

On Saturday Morning the Rathcormac mud Run takes place. This is the second year of the even which was just brilliant last year. If you are not taking part do come along on the morning to give a helping hand.

WEEKLY CLUB LOTTO.

The Jackpot on Tuesday August the 30 th was €4000. The four numbers drawn were 1,8,20 and 21 and there was no winner. The winners of €30 each were Betty Cahill Rathcormac, Ger Healy Terramount, Mark Troy Monanig, Mar & Una Rathcormac and the Buckley family Glenagowl.  The Jackpot for Tuesday September  the 6th was €4000.

Congratulations to Ballyhooley on their magnificent win in the replayed County J BF C Final against Cobh. At Pairc Ui Rinn on Friday night last they won by a margin of six points to capture the first ever County Football title for the Club
