Tony Walsh Cup goes to Carlow.
The 2015 Final of the Tony Walsh Memorial Cup was played on Sunday last in Pairc na Bride. St. Mullins the Carlow Senior Hurling Champions travelled to play us in the Final. It was a day of strong sunshine and a near gale force wind so it was always going to be the proverbial ‘game of two halves’. After the playing of Amhrain na bhFiann referee Aidan Barry of Sarsfields got the game underway with the home team playing with the elements. It was a tight game but at one stage we opened up a five point lead but such was the strength of the wind a half-time lead of seven or eight points was needed. Just when we seemed to be getting on top the Carlow side scored 1 1 in the space of a few minutes. We had just a single point advantage at the break 0 10 to 1 6. With the wind in the second half St Mullins were quickly in their stride. They b levelled and then went ahead but in fairness we fought back. With ten minutes to go the scores were level but St Mullins won in the end by. It was a good, hard competitive contest and I suppose coming so quickly after the Na Piarsaigh game it was big ask. We tried out most of the panel on the day and it is just great to see so many players getting game-time in Senior Hurling.

He said the contribution of the late Tony Walsh to Bride Rovers for close on fifty years was immense both as player and an officer. Nora Walsh then presented the Cup to Jack Kavanagh the St Mullins Captain. Jack thanked Bride Rovers for the invitation. He wished us the best of luck in the Cork SHC Quarter final on Sept 10th. St Mullins play Myshall in the next round of the Carlow league/Championship next weekend. Afterwards refreshments were served to all. Thanks to Liam Barry, Fermoy Print for the programme. Thanks also to all those who brought food and helped with the catering on the day.
RED FM County Senior Hurling League.
Bride Rovers 0 12 Na Piarsaigh 0 9.
I would safely say that the biggest ever attendance for a league game of any kind was present in Pairc na Bride on Friday evening. Several hundred spectators were there on a glorious evening for the visit of Na Piarsaigh, managed by Sean Og O hAilpin. This was a close and dour contest with scores well earned on both sides. The low sun made it hard for defenders but ni goal was scored . We led by 7 points to 4 at the break. Michael Collins, Barry Johnson (3) and William Finnegan added to our half time tally to bring our score to a dozen points. Na Piarsaigh added the same tally of five points to finish with 0 9. This win takes us to a total 20 points on the RED FM SHL table with three games left.
