Double Championship Weekend...

Well the excitement has been mounting with the last few weeks and this coming weekend brings double championship action for our Senior and Junior hurling teams. Our senior team have already tasted action on the last Saturday evening in May when we defeated Youghal in Ballynoe. A few weeks before that game we hosted Avondhu and Ballymartle in the Co SHC. Avondhu, the North Cork Divisional side won that contest and we face them in the next round of the County Senior Hurling Championship on this coming  Saturday evening in Castletownroche. Under the new Championship format this year first round winners play other first round winners with both teams getting a third chance. Thus the winners on Saturday night progress to Round 4 of the Championship while the losers will have one more opportunity to stay involved in the 2016 SHC. In the Youghal game we played very well but on the night the Seasiders were not in top form. We won that game well but on Saturday evening the opposition will be far stronger. In the past Divisional teams had little chance to prepare whereas this year Avondhu have been training since January. With players from Fermoy, Mallow, Milford, Charleville and Kildorrery Avondhu will provide a stern test for our lads. Since the Youghal game we've had a few Senior League games with mixed results -our last game was a good win over Ballyhea.  We played Avondhu once before in the Co SHC back in August 2008. That game was in Fermoy and while Avondhu led by 1 7 to 0 5 at halftime we went on to win by 0 15 to 1 7. Our team that night was D.Fitzgerald, A. Collins, B.Walsh, T. Moloney, Barry Murphy, Brian Murphy, J. Murphy, P. Murphy 0 1, B. Johnson 0 6, S. Ryan 0 2, J. O Driscoll 0 4, M. Kearney 0 1, M. Collins, D. Ryan, K. Collins. Sub C. O Keeffe 0 1. For Saturday night's game we will have a few of that side in action as will Avondhu . It will be a hard game to win but it's good to be  here in this position in mid-Summer and not battling relegation or already gone from the Championship. All our panel are in good fettle going into the contest so go for it lads and best of luck. Throw -in in Castletownroche on Saturday is at 7.30pm

JUNIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP.

On Sunday evening we face Midleton in the first round of the East Cork J A Grade Hurling championship in Castlelyons at 6pm.  With nineteen players used in the first round of the Senior C.ship we will have a tough encounter against Midleton on Sunday night. It may be Midleton's third team but such is their strength in depth that they will still be a very strong side. We have competed fairly well in Div 1 of the East Cork JHL this year but championship is a step up so go for it lads.

RED FM SHL

We played Ballyhea at home last week in the RED FM County SHL. It was good, high-scoring game with Brennie O Driscoll scoring two goals.  The half time score was Ballyhea 0-10. Bride Rovers 1-08. Bride Rovers 3-16  Panel v Ballyhea: DJ Cahill, J Macak, B Walsh, D Dooley, S Pratt, S Hackett, S Glasgow, B O Driscoll, S O Connor, J Pratt, B Johnson, M Kearney, T O Sullivan, B Murphy, M Liddane, F Collins, S Kearney, D Fitzgerald.
