Great win for modern day 'Holy Terrors'...

Back in the 1880's when Fr Edmond Barry was the main driving force behind the hurling and football clubs in the parish he felt that two hurling teams could easily be fielded, such was the number of players available. When these two teams had been up and running there were still more players looking for games so a third team was mooted. Fr. Barry 'christened' this team 'The Holy Terrors' -after a casual remark made by friend of his. The idea of having a third team in modern times was mooted a few years ago and has taken off mightily. With a Senior and a Junior A team it's difficult on occasions to muster sufficient numbers but overall we are doing very well. Winning the Junior C championship last year was a mighty achievement. We are fielding our third side in Division 3 of the East Cork Junior Hurling league this year and doing ok. Well done to all the players and mentors involved. Our most recent game was on Saturday last when Fr O Neills were visitors to Rathcormac.

Bride Rovers 2 8 Fr O Neills 0 10.

We played Fr. O'Neills in this Junior 3 league hurling match in Rathcormac on Saturday night. It was a good competitive match with some nice scores taken by both teams. O'Neill's started very well with three early points, before a goal from Alan O'Keeffe settled us. We led at half time on a score line of 1.4 to 0 6. We played much better in the second half, and a great goal from Jessie Barry O Keeffe put us into the driving seat. We ran out winners on a score line of 2.8 to 10pts. It was great to see such a mixture of young and old playing together with five players contributing to our tally of 2 8 and a total of twenty players togged out.

Weekly Club Lotto

The Lotto Jackpot for Tuesday June 7th was €5400. The four numbers drawn were 6,7,17 and 20 and there was no Jackpot winner. The winners of €30 each were Pat Mannix, E and S O Brien, Sinead O Driscoll, Karen Healy and Karen O Shaughnessy both c/o LAYA. The Jackpot for Tuesday June 13th was €5600. Tickets for the weekly Lotto are just €2 each and can be purchased from Club members and in local business outlets. Tickets can also be bought online at locallotto.ie Your ongoing support for the Bride Rovers Lotto is appreciated as the funds raised help with the day-to-day running costs of the Club.

AstroTurf facility is proving very popular on an ongoing basis and some slots are still available. The schedule is on the Club website www.briderovers.ie

Exams

Well the bulk of the State Exams are over so we hope they went well and for those still involved we say, keep going and best of luck. 

Senior Hurling

It's like the calm before the storm this weekend as all's quiet on the Senior front in preparation for our next Senior Championship outing. On Saturday week we face Avondhu in Castletownroche at 7.30 pm in what will be a very stern test.

Membership Fees for 2016.

Club Membership Fees for the 2016 season are now overdue. The fee for Adult Players is €100. For Student Players and non playing ordinary Club members the fee is €50. For OAP's the fee is €20. Membership Fees can be paid to the Club Treasurer or any Club Officer or Team mentors. If anyone wants to pay the membership fee in two instalments or more arrangements can be made to facilitate this.

Well done to Bishop O Brien NS

Bishop O Brien NS Bartlemy won their Sciath na Scoil at sunny Pairc Ui Rinn on Wed last with a good win over Aghabullogue thus completing a great double for the parish with Scoil Bride victorious the previous week. Adam Walsh captained the Bartlemy side to victory. 'How 'oft the traditions of sires they inherit, Rathcormac that reared them and Bartlemy too' is a line in the last verse of 'Bride Rovers Abu' and while it's great to see so many new families in the parish getting involved with Gaelic games the traditions of times past keep coming up. One of the best goalies Bride Rovers had in the 1970's was Joseph O Brien and his two grandsons Tiernan McAllister and Joseph O Brien Whitmarsh were outstanding players for the Bishop O Brien team. They had a small panel with plenty skill. Well done to the lads and Eddie and Damien on the line.
