Action on all Fronts..

The evenings are getting long, the weather better and the games are coming on all fronts.  The season is getting hectic with teams from under 6 to Senior all training and playing games. We had Minor, Junior and Senior games last week. This weekend we host a Cork County Senior Hurling Championship game so it's all go.

Minor Hurling league

After defeating Youghal in the Rebel Og East Minor Hurling League the team travelled to Trabeg last week to play Nemo Rangers. The two teams were evenly matched with the home side putting up a three point early lead. Two points from Brian Roche and a white flag from a Conleith Ryan free had the sides level .A massive point from midfield by Jesse O Keefe saw us ahead in a ding dong struggle.  The city side were ahead by a single point 0 8 to 0 7 at the break. Nemo went five points ahead with a goal but our lads fought back with some great points. In the end a draw Bride Rovers  0 15 Nemo Rangers 1  12 was a fair result.

Panel. Ben Hogan, Christopher Coleman, John O Sullivan, Peter O Leary, Griffin O Keeney, Shane O Connor, Eoin Roche, Jesse O Keefe, Brian Roche, Leon O Flynn, Jordan Mannix, DJ Cahill, Conor Barry, Conleith Ryan, Jordan Service, Patrick O Flynn, Seamus Ahern.

Minor Football League

It was off to the seaside again on Thursday night of last week to face Youghal in the Rebel Og East MFL. This was a cracker of a game with 8 goals and 24 points scored in a contest where the lead changed hands several times. We scored three first half goals- two from DJ Cahill, one of which was a well taken penalty and a green flag from Leon O Flynn saw us ahead by 3 4 to 0 9 at half time. A hat trick of goals from the home team followed by two points put them ahead by two. After that we took over and goals from DJ Cahill and Dylan Browne. Points from Conor Barry and Jordan Mannix were answered by Youghal. In the end Shaunie Knox kicked the winning point of a great game.

Final Score Bride Rovers 5 11 Youghal 3  13.

Panel; Ben Hogan, Peter O Leary, Jordan Service, Patrick O Flynn, Christopher Coleman, Dylan Browne, Griffin O Keeney, Jordan Mannix, Shane O Connor, Conor Barry, DJ Cahill, Leon O Flynn, Seamus Ahern,  Shaun Knox.

The Minor team will have a well earned break now until the Leaving and Junior Cert Exams are over. We wish all those doing exams the very best. Keep the hurling and football ticking over lads.

East Cork JHL Division 1

Bride Rovers played Lisgoold on Saturday 7th May in Rathcormac . The game was played under very poor conditions - more like march than early May. Lisgoold started very well and were well in control against a tired looking Rovers team.  This trend  continued up to Half time when the score was Bride Rovers 0-4  Lisgoold 0-10pts. We came much  more into the game in the second half and began to score points from play and frees but the stronger Lisgoold finished the game with a well taken penalty to record a good victory on a score line of Lisgoold 1-14 bride rovers 1-09.

Team; Daniel Lane,  Cian Howard, J. Macak,  Barry. Collins,  Ryan Prendergast, Brennie O Driscoll, Tadhg O Sullivan,  Shane O Connor 0 1, Michael. Liddane 0 1,  Stephen Pratt,  Jason. Mannix,  Damian Buckley 0 2, Colm Power,  DJ Cahill 0 4,  P. Noonan, J O Keeffe, Owen. Murphy Jake Tobin, A O Keeffe 1 1.

Our next game in the Junior League is on Sunday next May 15th when we are away to Fr O Neills at 12 noon in Ballymacoda.

Red FM SHL

On Sunday last we played Bishopstown in the Co Senior Hurling League at Bishopstown. The home team had defeated Ballincollig in the Co SFC the night before so they were missing several of their dual stars.  Played in cold blustery conditions the first half saw some great long range points being scored by both teams. We had a strong wind behind us and a three point lead at the break 0 10 to 0 7 didn't look adequate. The tempo was raised in the second half. We had two goals from Twiggy and young Ryan which helped us to a  2 -15 to 0 -14 victory. This was our fourth win in the Senior League. Our championship game v Youghal is just two weeks from Saturday night on  Saturday May 28th in Ballynoe

Panel v Bishopstown: D Dooley, M Collins, W Finnegan, S Glasgow, S Ryan, DJ Cahill, J Pratt, B Johnson, B Walsh, S Walsh, B Murphy, R Prendergast, D Carr, S Kearney, D Fitzgerald, S O Connor, M Kearney.

Jack Boothman RIP

It was with a great sense of sadness that we heard on Tuesday that former GAA President Jack Boothman had died. A native of Co Wicklow and a Vet by profession Jack was involved in the GAA all his life. He served as President from 1994 til 1997. We fondly remember his visit to our Summer camp during his Presidency. He was a very amiable and forthright man who held fast to his beliefs We extend our sympathy to his wife Nuala and family. May he rest in peace.
