Footballers out of Championship..

We played Glenville in the second round of the East Cork Junior A Grade  Football Championship on Saturday least. The game was played in Glenville. After suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of Fr O Neills in the first round this performance was a much better display. We played with great heart and spirit but we were defeated by a margin of four points on a scoreline of Glenville 0  13 Bride Rovers 1  6. Glenville's ability to kick points was the main difference between the teams in the end.  It is very disappointing to be out of the Football championship in early April but great credit to all the players who donned the Rovers jersey on Saturday. The team played with great heart and win or lose it is important to put in the effort and our team on Saturday certainly did that. Thanks to Pa O Driscoll for taking on the football management role this year. We will have to have a major review of promoting football in the club but a sincere thanks is due to the players who turned out for the two championship encounters in recent weeks. There are undoubtedly plenty talented Gaelic footballers in the parish and we will ensure that these players will get plenty games in the future.

John Fenton RIP.

One of the greatest GAA personalities  in Cork died last weekend. John Fenton of Ballinahina was President of Fermoy GAA Club at the time of his death and he gave a lifetime of service to the Club. He was a gifted player who gave his all for the Blacwater-side club. When his playing days were over he continued with Fermoy as an Officer, Selector, Board Delegate and mentor. He stuck with his beloved club through  thick and thin and was thrilled to see two Intermediate County Titles come to Fermoy over the last two seasons.  A great Gael and as great friend to so many John will be sorely missed but men like him are never forgotten. On behalf of all in Bride Rovers we extend our deepest sympathy to the Fenton family.
