Busy Easter Weekeend..
Last weekend Ireland marked the Centenary of the 1916 Rising and as a Club we decided to mark the occasion on Sunday in conjunction with our RED FM senior Hurling League game against Glen Rovers. It was a busy weekend overall as we had a first round game in the East Cork Junior Football championship on Saturday. In recent years interest in Gaelic football within the Club has been at a low ebb. At one stage last week the possibility existed that we might have to give a walkover in the championship to Fr O Neills. In the end we managed to field a team. The game was fixed for Dungourney but adverse weather on Saturday morning saw the game switched to the Fr O Neills pitch at Aghavine, Ballymacoda. Unfortunately we were No match for the 2015 East Cork champions who ran out easy winners on a scoreline of 4 11 to 0 4- our heaviest ever defeat in Junior A Grade football championship. Thanks to the players who turned out for us on the day. We will have to take a long hard look at the position of football in the Club if we are to fulfil our remit to cater for both hurling and football in the parish. We will have to go ‘back to basics’ in terms of entering a team in the East Cork League again and simply ensure that football gets a fair crack of the whip in terms of time and resources.

Easter Sunday.
Despite very mixed weather on Sunday there was a great crowd present at Pairc na Bride for our SHL game and Easter Rising Commemoration. Thanks to Liam Barry and the staff at Fermoy Print for producing an excellent 12 page Souvenir Programme for the game, it was publication truly fitting the occasion - we have some copies for those who were unable to attend the game. The game was timed was timed for 12.30 and at 12.15 the 1916 proclamation was read by Club PRO John Arnold as Club Chairman Billy Finnegan and county Board Chairman Gerard lane raised the National Flag. When referee Ger Scully from Killeagh had tossed the coin he beckoned for a moments silence. Then John Power gave a truly magnificent rendition of our National Anthem, Amhrain na bhFiann. It was a simple but very fitting and poignant tribute to the leaders of 1916 on this special weekend in the history of our country. At half time in the Senior game two juvenile teams from the Glen played mini games against two Bride Rovers teams. Sincere thanks to all who helped with the arrangements for this very special occasion for our Club, all who helped prepare the field, match officials, car parl stewards and those in charge of the mini- games. Go raibh mile maith agaibh go leir.
Bride Rovers 1 13 Glen Rovers 0 8.
Despite wind and rain the game between ourselves and the County Champions was good contest. Vital to our victory was a first minute goal from Daniel Dooley which gave us a mighty start when playing with a very strong breeze. After that the first half was fairly even. With ten minutes to go we had a six point lead 1 8 to 0 5 which didn’t seem adequate given the strength of the elements. However we finished the half strongly with three good points to take a 1 11 to 0 5 lead to the dressingroom. We scored just a brace of points in the second half but the Glen despite wind assistance were very wasteful and added just three points to their tally. The final score was Bride Rovers 1 13 Glen Rovers 0 8. A good win in testing conditions.
