League Win for Seniors v Eire Óg..
Bride Rovers Senior Ladies made up for the disappointment of losing their opening game in the league with a 4 point win over Eire Óg in Round 2 of the Senior Ladies Division 1A League.
This was certainly a game of two halves as we dominated the opening half but let Eire Óg back into the game in the second half.
The Rovers were first on the scoreboard with well taken points from Grace Culloty, who starred for Cork Minors the previous day v Kerry, Emma Roche & Grace Kearney. Eire Óg responded with 2 points but Rovers struck back with 3 well taken goals.
The first goal coming from the impressive Grace Kearney while Grace also got the second following a great run up the field from Laura Quirke, who made her inter-county debut with Cork Minors the previous day v Kerry. Jennifer Barry got the third with a well taken shot giving the Eire Óg keeper no chance. Further points from Grace Culloty (2) & Grace Kearney (2) extended our lead.
Our backs were doing a great job reducing the threat from the Eire Óg forwards. Caitriona Vaughan made some crucial saves in goal, while the full back line of Evelyn Collins, Arlene O Callaghan & Aine Cashman kept a tight reign on their opponents. Mary Hazelwood was making great runs forward and Trish O’Sullivan won some vital balls with some excellent interceptions. Laura Quirke was dominant at centre back and as ever Eleanor Ahern worked tirelessly in midfield winning some great kick outs. Katie Connor worked hard on the wings as did Sinead Walsh in the corner setting up some nice scores.
Eire Óg scored a goal and 3 points to reduce the deficit but the Rovers finished the have with 2 more well taken goals from birthday girl Jennifer Cahill & Grace Culloty. At half time we were well in front on a scoreline of 5-07 to 1-06.
In the second half we did not really push on and we let Eire Og back into the game. Eire Óg attacked in droves and scored some lovely points. Eire Óg out scored us 1-09 to 0-03 in this half but we held on to win by 4 points on a scoreline of 5-10 to 2-15.
Our next game is at home to Fermoy in a fortnight. Thank you to our minor camogie team for facilitating us so that we could play this league match at home.
