U16 Girls Football East Cork Final...
We played Na Pairsaigh in Pairc Na Bride on Sunday the 25th of December in the league final. We started very well and we had 1:1 on the board after 6 mins. The goal coming from some great work in the full forward line by Sophie and Ella, and finished by Ciara O Flynn. Then Na Parisaigh got to grips with our girls and really put us under pressure for most of the second half and they managed to score a goal from a penalty and another from a mistake that gave them another. However we rallied from the defence and worked the ball down the field to get a penalty of our own, and Shauna finished it to leave the half time score Bride Rovers 2:2 to Na Pairsaigh 2:3. We were lucky to be only down by a point due to the brilliant display of Cliona in the goals where she saved three definite goals.
After a regroup at half time and the introduction of Leah and Abbey saw our girls score directly from the throw in, with a well finished touch by Ella. We began to dictate the game from the back with Alice and Caoimhe K keeping their markers very quiet and Alanna commanding the number 3 spot defending excellently while also beginning some of the attacking moves from the full back line. Great link work from Caoimhe O S and Nodhlaig really supported the midfield and half forward line, while Chloe was solid at centre back. Another attack that saw at total of eight passes right from the full back line and was finished to net by Leah, who ended up with 2:1 for 30 minutes work. Rebecca and Caoimhe H ran themselves into the ground running from end to end while Shauna was always out in front of her marker to win possession to set up the next attack. Sarah and Ava impressed on the wings with some great runs forward but more importantly they were willing to work back and help the defence. Some great scores came from this combined teamwork and determination. Amy came on for the final few minutes and she was not found wanting. Final Score 6:6 to 3:6. We would also like to thank the rest of the panel for putting in the work throughout the year. Well done girls, this was a well deserved win, with great work put in over the year with training and matches and the wonderful encouraging leadership from Chloe. We wish all the girls going up to minor the best of luck and we will see the rest of you in January where it will all start again!
