Two in Row for Junior Cs...
Playing in the third final in a row our Junior C Hurling team, retained their East Cork crown and the Micheál Foley Cup at Castlelyons on Saturday evening last. In 2014 we contested our first ever Junior C grade championship Final. On that occasion we lost a very close game to Russell Rovers in Dungourney. Last year in Lisgoold Padraig Noonan led his team to victory over Cobh and Tomás Kearney did the same at Pairc an t-Athair Peadar O Laoighaire in Castlelyons on Saturday. With wins over Cobh and Sarsfields behind us the final against Midleton was going to be a major challenge. The Magpies had already accounted for Killeagh and Fr O Neills and though it was their fourth team such is the strength of hurling in the East cork capitol we expected a close game. Ours was a very experienced team featuring a third of our East Cork and County winning team of 1998. Youghal's Jim Daly got the game underway at 4 o clock on a pitch just perfect for hurling. Points from Daniel O Brien and Stephen Boyce were matched by two white flags from Midleton who took the lead after ten minutes. Stephen Boyce had to leave the field with a recurrence of a leg injury and was replaced by Jake Tobin. From a free Terry Broderick had us level before Midleton pointed a free in the 14th minute to go 0 4 to 0 3 ahead. It was noticeable even at this early stage that our defence was giving little leeway to the Midleton forwards. Dylan Browne was solid in goal. Captain Kearney, Pa O Driscoll and Brian Lahive with his trademark ground whip were very solid. Barry Murphy lorded it at centre back and Barry Collins and Jim O Connor were very steady on the wings. Gavin O Flynn added to a good centre from James Murphy and his delivery was well caught out in the corner by Jake Tobin. Jake sent the sliotar right across the square where Donal Ryan finished it to the net. A few minutes later Alan O Keeffe supplied Terry who floated a great ball in -it looked as if the Midleton keeper had it covered when Donal got his hand to the sliotar and with a deft flick of the wrist another goal! Terry had a point from a free when Jake was fouled. We were 2 4 to 0 4 ahead with 21 minutes gone. Pat Walsh struck a beauty of a point and when Gavin O Flynn pointed after Terry sent a sideline puck to him we were 2 6 to 0 4 ahead. Midleton got a point before Donal Ryan had the last score of the half to put us 2 7 to 0 5 ahead at the break. It was a decent lead, which reflected our superiority. As expected Midleton started the second half all guns blazing and had two points in as many minutes. Terry raised a white flag before Midleton made it 2 8 to 0 8. Damian Healy and Sean Cotter came on for us as Midleton threatened to get on top. Points from Daniel O Brien and Terry steadied the ship entering the last quarter. Jack Connor came into the defence and played well. Donal Pyne came on for his first ever adult championship win with the club. We finished with a flurry and further points from Terry (0 3) Alan (0 2) and Gavin left the final score Bride Rovers 2 16 Midleton 0 14. Donal O Keeffe presented the Cup to team Captain Tomas Kearney who made a very concise speech thanking players, management and the Midleton team.
Well done lads, a great win for all those involved. Fielding a third team is never easy but fair play to those who put in the effort over the last few months. Team Manager Billy Finnegan, Selector Sham Buckley, trainer Dave Burke and medical officer Jerome O Driscoll all played their parts in this win. The team had some great displays including a few practise games and the League tie against Ballinacurra set the team on the way. No championship title is won easily so it's great to retain the title. Our team changed from game to game with injuries, holidays and work commitments but fair play to everyone involved. Each and every player was important on the panel but I'm sure no one will quibble if I give special praise to the '1998 5' Barry Murphy, Pat Walsh, Terry Broderick, James Murphy and Donal Ryan. Each of these players have played over 700 games for Bride Rovers at Junior, Intermediate and Senior level and are going as strong as ever still- what heart, spirit, determination and pure love of the game they all possess.

SENIORS LOSE TO ROCKIES.
After our best ever SHL campaign with years our interest in the competition came to an end in Carrigtwohill on Sunday . We took on Blackrock in the semi final but lost out by a margin of two points after extra time. Like the championship encounter with Douglas this was a huge disappointment for after looking well out of contention for most of the hour we took the lead near the end. A goal from Daniel Dooley with jut two minutes on the clock put us two points ahead and a victory seemed well within our grasp. However the Rockies scored two late points to level the game at 2 12 to 1 15. It was still level at the end of the first ten minutes of extra time 2 14 to 1 17 and with two minutes to go a replay looked likely. Blackrock pointed two frees to qualify for the final against Newtownshandrum. We struggled to get scores -just three players Barry Johnson 0 12, Daniel Dooley 2 2 and sub Sane O Connor 0 1 contributed to our tally of 2 15 while Blackrock saw eight players hit scores as they amassed 1 20. It's truly been a case of so close but not there yet for us in both the Championship and League this year -we are nearly there so we must strive again for 2017.
Team D. Fitzgerald, F. Collins, D. Carr. S. Kearney, M. Kearney, L. Forde, S Walsh, M. Liddane, B. Johnson 0 12 -0 11 frees, J. Mannix, B. Murphy, W. Finnegan, S. Glasgow, D. Dooley (2 2), S. Ryan, DJ. Cahill., R. Prendergast, S. O Connor 0 1, T. O Sullivan, B. O Driscoll.
