BRIDE ROVERS GAA NOTES.

 Micheál Walsh Makes Club History.
Monday night last in Pairc Ui Rinn saw the Cork Minor Footballers defeat Waterford in the Munster Minor FC. It was a historic night for the Bride Rovers Club when for the first time we had a player on the team- well done Micheál.

The Senior Hurlers face Ballymartle in their sixth RED FM SHL game next Sunday. It’s hectic times for the Juvenile players with games in practically every grade-see Juvenile Notes. Mixed fortunes for Cork sides last week. Well done to Siobhan Cashman on her Rebels Bounty win. Plans well underway for the Annual Cul Camp.  The countdown is on for the Juvenile Club’ Table Quiz. We had a lengthy and productive Executive meeting on Monday night.  Plenty fundraisers on Terry Broderick is doing 5 Ironman Events-in 5 Days for the Mercy Hospital Foundation, Marymount Hospice, and the Irish Cancer Society. Dates announced for later in the year-busy, busy!

RED FM SHL Division 2. On Thursday night last our senior hurlers travelled to Ballyhea to take on the local team in a senior hurling challenge. This was a very useful workout with, as expected, a good competitive game with Ballyhea.
Ballyhea started well and raced into an early lead 0-5 to 0-2. But the Rovers settled well and clawed back the lead to leave the minimum between the sides at half time. Ballyhea 0-8 Bride Rovers 0-7.
The Rovers upped their performance in the second half in a game that was being played at a championship level. Goals in the second half from Conor O Riordan, Conleith Ryan and a Cillian Tobin penalty ensured a 3-14 to 1-14 win for the Rovers. It was great to see our good friend and former coach Jack Russell at the game. All in Bride Rovers wish Jack well.
Team: C. Hogan, T O Sullivan, D Cashman, R Prendergast, C Hazelwood, C Tobin, C Barry, D Barry, R O Connell, C Ryan, L Roche, P O Flynn, C Barry, A Walsh C O Riordan. Subs used J Ahern, J Mannix.

CORK TEAMS. It was a mixed bag for the Cork Senior teams. There was an amazing atmosphere in Walsh Park on Saturday evening. Cork supporters were n the majority on an evening when we witnessed a catastrophic blazing inferno not far from the pitch. Cork won again, three wins now – a tight game where Waterford showed great heart. It was fitting that the Cork supporters gave the injured Kiean Bennett a standing ovation as he left the field. The Clare game to come on Sunday week. We may well be in the Munster Final already, who knows, a lot to play for yet! A case of ‘so near and yet so far’ in Killarney. Cork started mightily but Kerry won the Paudie O Shea Cup. Cork now must dust themselves down and get ready to face the men of Royal Meath on Saturday week. The Under 20 hurlers with our own Denis Fitzgerald lost out to Clare in the Munster semi final. They’d beaten the Banner County the previous week but the Clare men came down to seek revenge and did so. They now face Tipperary in the Munster Final.

APRIL REBELS BOUNTY; Well done to Siobhain Cashman who won a prize of €500 in the Cork GAA Members Rebels Bounty Draw for April.

IRONMAN TERRY; Bride Rovers stalwart Terry Broderick is taking on 5 70.3 Ironman races in 5 days this June to honor his late dad, Pat Broderick, and to thank the amazing teams at Mercy Hospital Foundation, Marymount Hospice, and the Irish Cancer Society for their support during his dad’s cancer journey.

The Broderick family have been GAA and Community activists always. Terry will commence on Tuesday June 2nd and finish up on Sat. June 6th.The plan is to have the finish in Pairc na Bride around 3 or 4 o clock with refreshments for all.
They were at 75% of their goal after just 3 days—please consider sharing or donating if you can to help them reach more people who might want to support this inspiring challenge.

EAST CORK JAHL DIVISION 1. Our Junior A hurlers returned to league action after a month of a break when Midleton were the visitors to Pairc na Bhríde on Tuesday evening. It was a fine evening for hurling and our lads started well with the opening three points from Jack, Conor & Adam and we seem to be doing all the hurling for the opening 10 minutes, but Midleton responded well with a quick-fire goal and two points saw them into the lead. Conor reduce the lead with his second point, but Midleton got through for a second gaol to lead 2-2 to 4 points after 15 minutes. Conor got two more points to reduce the margin, but Midleton struck back with two of their own. The lads did finish the half strongly and points from Louie, Cillian, Conor, Adam and Matthew who was an early substitute for the injured Shuan saw the deficient reduced to 1 point at the break on a score of 11 points to 2-6.
The lads were asked to up the work rate for the second half and they made a great start to the half with points from Conor, Jack & Eddie. Matthew was on hand to finish off a great team worked goal in the 36th minute which gave us a lead of 1-14 to 2-6. Midleton did respond with the next 3 points, but the back really tightened up for the last 20 minutes and would only concede 2 more point in the remainder of the game. Louie and Conor got our next scores, but the margin was still close until the final five minutes when we scored the last 6 points of the game to win out on a scoreline of 1-22 to 2-11
Team & Scorers: R O’Riordan, E O’Connor, O Roche, S Ahern, C O’Sullivan, L Collins, K Cotter, S Knox, A Hayes (0-2), Cillian Barry (0-1), L Roche (0-2), C O’Riordan (0-1), J Mannix (0-2), Conor Barry (0-10, 4fs), E Cashman (0-3) Subs M Kenny (1-1), D Buckley

CORK MINOR FOOTBALLERS IN MUNSTER FINAL.  Cork Minor Footballers with Vincent Cronin one of the selectors are in the Munster Minor Football Final next Monday. Tey were already qualified before their last ‘Round Robin’ game v Waterford on Monday last. Cork won this contest  by 3 13 to 1 12 and will, once more, meet Kerry in the Final. Our own Bride Rovers player Micheal Walsh came on  in the game. I think, though I’m open to correction, that he is the fist Bride Rovers player to play with the Minor Footballers -we congratulate him and his team mates. This team has already won their section of the Leinster Minor Football League. They face Kerry on Monday, May 18th at 7:35pm in Páirc Uí Rinn so best of luck to all concerned.

BIG DAY FOR KILWORTH.
Next Saturday will be a really ‘Red Letter’ day for Kilworth GAA Club.  The Association’s President Jarlath Burns will be on hand to officially open the Club’s newly built €1 million complex.  Bride Rovers have a great and long standing relationship with Kilworth going back to Dave Ryan. In the 1980’s when we hadn’t huge success the Kilworth Festival Tournament was something we always looked forward to. It will be a great day for a wonderful Club.

EXECUTIVE MEETING. Twenty three members attended Monday’s Ex. Meeting with Cathaoirleach James Beminhgham presiding. The Runai read the Minutes of the Last meeting and Cisteoir Brian Collins gave the Financial Reports. It’s a fair indication of the work that goes on in every Club – I noted under one item alone ‘Correspondence’ there were twenty-seven letters, emails etc to be dealt with! We had Reports from the various Committees; Juvenile, Ladies,  Field, Centenary, One Club, Pynes Development as well as East Cork and County Board Reports.  It’s a huge workload and we’re lucky to have such committed members. The next Meeting is n Monday June 9th.

BARTLEMY WINNER. Congrats to Pat Pyne, owner, and his grandson Jack Collins, on their great win at Bartlemy Point to Point races last Sunday with ‘Queen of The Gales’

Under14 Hurling Division 4B League
Lisgoold 0-3 Bride Rovers 8-7
Bride Rovers U14 Hurling Team 2 produced a superb display on Tuesday evening as they overcame Lisgoold on a commanding scoreline of 8-7 to 0 3. From the opening minutes, Rovers set the tone with sharp attacking play, relentless work rate and some excellent finishing in front of goal.
The game could hardly have started better for Bride Rovers. Dara Murphy struck for two early goals inside the opening three minutes. Although Lisgoold responded with a couple of points, Rovers continued to dominate possession and territory. Cian Barry added another point after 14 minutes following some excellent approach play, while points from Patrick O’Regan, Liam Harrington and another 1-1 from Dara Murphy kept the scoreboard ticking over.
The first half was defined by Rovers’ clinical finishing and intensity around the breaking ball. Dara Murphy was in outstanding form and completed a remarkable first-half haul with further goals on 20, 27 and 29 minutes. The forwards were supplied by hard-working midfield play and strong defensive turnovers. By half-time, Bride Rovers held a commanding 7-4 to 0-2 lead.
To their credit, Lisgoold battled hard throughout the second half and continued to work for scores, but the Rovers defence stayed disciplined and organised. Rovers continued to create chances after the break, with Dara Murphy and Cian Barry adding points before Oisín Dorgan, now playing outfield, finished brilliantly to the net midway through the half to put the result firmly beyond doubt. Further scores from Cian Barry helped round off an excellent team performance as Rovers maintained their intensity right to the final whistle.
Team: Oisín Dorgan (1-0), Sean O'Dowd, Darragh Feeney, Harry Fitzgerald, Harry Fitzpatrick, Luke Fitzgerald, Conor Dorgan, Patrick O'Regan (0-1), Aidee Carr, Jack Gubbins, Liam Harrington (0-1), Tiarnán Lyons (0-1), Cian Barry (1-2), Dara Murphy (6-3), Jack O’Donovan. Subs used: Joey Allen, Luke Buckley.
Rovers now sit 4 points ahead on top of the league with two games to go against Carrigtwohill and Aghada

CUL CAMP 2026. Plans are well underway for this years Cul Camp at the end of July. We have 205 players registered for the week. Under14 Division 1 Football Championship Round 2
St.Colman’s 3-12 Bride Rovers 6-4
Rovers produced a remarkable comeback to claim a dramatic one-point victory over St. Colman’s (Cloyne/Russell Rovers) in Round 2 of the U14 Football Championship on Thursday evening, 8th May. Rovers battled back from ten points down during the first half to turn the game around and finish strongly in a thrilling contest.
St. Colman’s started the sharper and punished Rovers early with two quick goals alongside a series of points to open up a significant lead. .
Kai Roddis sparked the fightback with an excellent goal before adding another major later in the half. Tommy Conway also found the net as Rovers began to settle into the game and carry far more attacking threat. Despite trailing 3-6 to 3-1 at half time, there was a strong sense that the momentum had started to shift approaching the break. The second half started with some St.’ points and at one stage, Rovers found themselves ten points behind and under serious pressure. However, rather than letting the game drift away, the team responded brilliantly. Defensively, the players worked tirelessly, closing down space, contesting every breaking ball and forcing turnovers all over the field. The intensity and work rate of the group lifted significantly and St. Colman’s began to struggle with the pressure being applied. Alex McCarthy was outstanding in this second period, scoring two superb goals and adding a point from play, while Kai Roddis completed a brilliant hat-trick with another well-taken goal. Important scores from Tommy Conway and Conor Healy kept the scoreboard moving as Rovers gradually chipped away at the deficit before eventually moving ahead.
The final minutes were tense and hard fought, with every player contributing enormously defensively as St. Colman’s pushed for a late equaliser. Rovers held firm under pressure and showed huge composure to close out with a one-point win after an incredible turnaround. It was a performance full of heart, belief and determination, with the players refusing to give in despite the difficult opening stages. The impact of the substitutes was also important late on, with Ryan Field, Tiarnán Lyons and Darragh Feeney all contributing valuable energy when introduced. Team & Scorers: Joey Allen, Thomas Hegarty (C), Denis Skillington, Luke Fitzgerald, Scott Lynch, Cameron Hoare, Matthew Finn, Tommy Conway (1-1), Conor Healy (0-1), Jack Roddis, Alex McCarthy (2-1), Ryan Hogan, Kai Roddis (3-1), Noah Collins, Adam Hackett, Ryan Field, Tiarnán Lyons, Darragh Feeney. Rovers last group game will be against St. Nicks on May 22nd to determine who tops the group.
