Our U10 hurlers had a Munster blitz last Saturday in Pairc Na Bríde. The competing teams included ourselves, Ballygunner of Waterford, Na Piarsaigh of Limerick,
Durlas Óg of Tipperary and our near neighbours Kilworth.
They were led by bagpiper Ger Broderick of Castlelyons Pipe Band from the dressing room area onto and around the field. They were greeted by the cheers, applause and video taking of a huge crowd.
A minute of silence was held in memory of the late Katie O Keeffe ahead of the national anthem being played. The thoughts of everyone are with the O'Keeffe and Mannix family on the loss of their courageous little girl, Katie.
The games commenced and there was some mighty battling and skill shown by our boys in all the games played. Each team played three games of 24 minutes each. All was well impressively coordinated by Raymond Hegarty, with the aid of his loud hooter! He was ably assisted by young Ronan Murphy, Raheen.
It was great to have a huge Rovers contingent out to support the lads, and they were very aware of their club senior hurling heros Adam Walsh, Conor Barry, and Eoin and Brien Roche cheering them on from the banks. All four are worried about their ability to make a Rovers adult hurling and football teams in 2033 when these U10s become eligible to play!
A special thanks to our referees led by Mike Carey. It was great to have young whistlers Cormac Barry, Hannah O Driscoll and Ciaran Mohally well kitted out and handling the games very well.
A special word of thanks to the parents for providing the refreshments after the blitz.
Thanks to the visiting teams for coming the long distance. There was great feedback on the quality of the welcome, the coordination and the facilities. Some took the short trip to see the new playing fields at Pynes.
Finally, thanks to Liam and Ann Marie Barry of Fermoy Print and Design for all their help with the signage and posters for the event.
