MINORS & JUNIOR B’S IN ACTION-JUNIOR A’s WAITING.. FAB U 8 BLITZ

It’s well into September but thankfully the action goes on. Last week our Junior D hurlers lost out in what was a semi final v Midleton. The Junior B Footballers had a great win over Cobh but didn’t qualify for the knockout stages. This weekend the Minor Footballers are in the East Final v Youghal on Saturday. On Sunday the Junior B team play Lisgoold. We host a County Board ‘Slan Leat’ Relegation play-off on Saturday

JUNIOR D TEAM BOW OUT. Bride Rovers' Junior D Championship campaign came to an end on Tuesday night under the lights at the Park South Complex in Midleton as the home side booked their place in the East Cork Final against Fr. O'Neill's. After heavy rain throughout the day, conditions improved considerably before throw-in, and despite Midleton making the stronger start, Bride Rovers battled hard throughout. Scores from Craig O'Callaghan, Jack Lynch, Nicky Kelleher and Darragh O'Farrell kept Rovers in contention, but a crucial Midleton goal just before the break left the halftime score at 1-9 to 0-8.The introduction of Michael "Twiggy" Collins at half time added fresh impetus to the Bride Rovers attack. However, Midleton's second goal, coming from a cleverly worked 30-yard free midway through the second half, proved decisive. Twiggy responded with a well-taken goal for Rovers, while substitute Daniel Dooley also made an impact with an excellent point late on. Despite battling to the final whistle, Bride Rovers were unable to close the gap in the closing stages. Standout performances came from   Dinny Fitzgerald, Barry Collins and  Darragh Kielty although every player gave everything for the cause. The absence of Jason Pratt and Ciarán O'Dowd was particularly felt during the second half. While disappointment was evident at the final whistle, there is much to be proud of. In the club's first season fielding a fourth adult hurling team, having over 30 players involved throughout the campaign was a tremendous achievement. The memorable victory over Fr. O'Neill's in Pynes will live long in the memory as a highlight of the year.  We wish Midleton and Fr. REFS BUSY. Last Sunday saw Pa and James on Referee duty in Pairc UI Rinn. James was on the whistle for the Bishopstown v Clyda Rovers game and Pa was in charge of the Castlehaven v Knocknagree game.

 BRILLIANT UNDER 8 BLITZ in PYNES.

Bride Rovers were delighted to host our Under 8 Monster Go Games Hurling Blitz in Pynes Pitches on Saturday morning, welcoming teams from Blackrock, Cashel, Inniscarra, Kinsale and St. Finbarr's for a fantastic celebration of hurling.  There were a few nervous looks towards the sky at 7am, but thankfully the weather improved dramatically and by 9am the clouds had cleared to leave perfect conditions for a morning of games.  A special highlight of the day was the parade led by the piper. Seeing so many young players proudly representing their clubs created a great atmosphere and gave coaches, parents and supporters a huge sense of pride in our children, our club and our games.  The hurling on display throughout the morning was excellent. The teams were very evenly matched, resulting in a series of competitive and hard-fought games played in the true spirit of Go Games. Most importantly, every child had plenty of opportunities to play, develop their skills and enjoy themselves.   A huge thank you to all of the coaches and mentors whose hard work and organisation ensured the blitz ran smoothly. We also extend our sincere thanks to the many parents and volunteers who assisted with parking, stewarding and numerous other tasks throughout the morning.  Finally, congratulations to all of the players who represented Bride Rovers and the visiting clubs so well. Their effort, enthusiasm and sportsmanship were a credit to themselves, their families and their clubs. Bride Rovers had six 5-a-side teams in action and all were so enthusiastic. At this level goals and points matter not at all but having fun and improving skills is what’s it’s all about.  Overall, the Monster Blitz was a tremendous success and a wonderful celebration of underage hurling. We thank all the clubs who travelled and helped make it such a memorable morning. Well done to Mike and all the others who helped to organise a feast of hurling. Special mention for the absolutely outstanding Blitz Booklet produced for the day. It contained the rules, details of the times, starting time for each game and plenty information -a great publication. In total we had 36 mini games which started on time and the Blitz finished before the rain came.

MINOR FOOTBALL FINAL. On Saturday next our Minor Footballers make the journey to Aghada to take on Youghal in the Rebel East Final. We met Youghal only last week in the final Round Robin game and were well beaten. WE were in the final and Youghal had to win. It will be hard to reverse that result on Saturday but he lads will try their best. The game throws in in Aghada at 4 o clock. Just over a week later we’ll be meeting Youghal again, on Sunday week the 26th in the East Hurling Final. That game is fixed for Glenville at 4 o clock.

WEEKLY CLUB LOTTO. Lotto Results for Tuesday the 8th of September;- the four Numbers drawn were 14, 15, 19 & 21 and there was No Winner of the Jackpot.

REBELS BOUNTY WINNER. Well done to Michael Carey, Monanig who won €250 in the August Rebel Bounty draw last night. Sources close to the family have confirmed the inevitable- the money will join that collected at his communion (4 April 1989) and confirmation (17th May 1994) under his mattress asap.

BUSY EXECUTIVE MEETING> There was a very good attendance at last Monday night’s Executive Meeting. A full Agenda was gone through.  Special guest on the night was Fr Seanie Barry who addressed the gathering. In congratulating the Club on the 2025 SAHC victory he spoke of the pride in the team this year at the Premier Grade. He said it’s vita to have as many people as possible playing and involved in the Club at all levels. He said this a crucial time for the future of Gaelic games and stressed the need for all to listen to each other respectfully. Signage for Pynes Field,  the need for a National Schools coach, our One-Club progression were all discussed. A series of Information Night were announced on the One Club Pathway. Best wishes for a full recovery were extended to Hugh Kelleher -a former Juvenile Club Chairman.

JUNIOR B’s IN ACTION. On Sunday morning next Sept 20th our Junior B hurlers are back in Championship action. We drew with Youghal, lost to Aghada and defeated Killeagh to reach the quarter final where we meet Lisgoold. This will our third XV v Lisgoold’s second 15 so it’s a big ask but the team has shown some great determination this year. The match is fixed for Castlelyons at 11.30 -best of Luck lads.

GAME IN PITCH. It was the late Paudie Palmer who coined the phrase ‘The Slan Leat Final’ for the Cork GAA Relegation play-offs. It’s a tough station when two teams arrive at a venue like ours – both proud Intermediate Hurling Clubs and two hours later one leaves happy and the losers are back down to Premier Junior for 2027. That’s sport-highs and lows. Pairc na Bride will host the Intermediate A relegation play-off on Saturday next when Russell Rovers and Ballygiblin meet at 4 o clock. Both Clubs have played All Ireland Finals in Croke Park in the last few years but now they meet to decide who goes down a grade. All Club members that are available please attend at 2.30.

JUNIOR AHC. On this coming Saturday in Ballynoe Carrignavar meet Fr O Neill’s in the JAHC quarter final. We will be meeting the winners in the semi final. Cobh meet Carrigtwohill in the other Quarter Final tie with Killeagh awaiting the victors there.

CAR BOOT SALE. Thanks to all who helped out with the Car Boot Sale on Sunday last -another big crowd. There will be an extra Car Boot Sale in October -n the Bank Holiday Monday the 26th, this is in addition to the sale on Sunday the 11th. Help is always wanted.   Thanks to those who help regularly, new helpers are always wanted. Even if you can give an hour -anytime from 7am on that Sunday  or Monday morning it would be of great assistance.
