Last Wednesday's game was alway going to be a tough and tense encounter at home to Lisgould. We needed another win and a loss for our opponents would put them out of contention to qualify for a semi final.

We had lost to our opponents in last year's semi final. We used that fact to our advantage and reminded the lads of the hurt they felt after that last years defeat. They responded well in a very fast & physical game of hurling.

We lost the toss and played against a steady breeze. We lined up with Jack & Michael inside and Finn as a third midfielder. The visitors opened the scoring with two fast points from play before we got our first from a free. They were having far the better first 10 min but we were staying in the game with a few points from play before we got our first goal to take the lead.

Our backs lead by Denis, Jamie, Ronan, Cathal, Adam and Gearoid were solid and put is some hard tackles throughout the game and contributed 4 or 5 point from play. However, they carried the ball into contact a few times and conceded 1-2 before the short whistle leaving it a 1 point lead to the Rovers at half time. 1-13 to 2-9.

Matty & Cormac at midfield were working very hard and distributing good ball and scoring too. After 5 minutes of the second half we reverted back to 3 inside forwards and Finn, Jack & Conor topped up more scores. We switched Michael to center forward and this allowed Sean and Shane to get on more ball and take a few points. We brought in Rudi for Sean and we got our second goal a few minutes later. Without being at our best, we were the better team but a dogged physical Lisgoold were playing to stay in the championship and had it back to a single score with 10 minutes to go. Oliver, Gary and Mark were introduced and we finished the better with a run of points from play and a few long range frees from Cormac. The final whistle signalled that w

e won our third championship game on a score line of 2-24 to 2-15. Well done lads.

Our next Match is a Minor Football Semi Final v Carrigtowhill next Wednesday 3rd @ 7pm in Pairc Na Bride. Please support.
