On a warm evening in Pairc na Bhríde we welcomed Kiltha Og for the 2nd of the Minor A Hurling Championship.

The game started at a great pace with both sides swapping 2 early points each. We had lost the toss and had to play against the breeze. With Denis Fitz still out injured, Adam Cronin - our full Back in the first round - away on Holiday and Matty Kenny out with suspension we were short in a few areas but always had confidence in our panel and it gave great opportunity to a few lads to step in and play a great Championship game.

We took a 2 point lead (0-4 to 0-2) and that was answered very quickly from our opponents. The play was very fast and physical and the referee left it flow. Wwe were slipping in the middle 10min of the first half and conceded a few scores and a goal. However, we moved a few players around and we responded with a great goal from Jack Mannix and added a few points from Sean, Shane & Conor. We didn’t stop there and were building great momentum. We scored 2 more great team goals that were started in the back line from Ronan, Gearoid & Cathal. The goals were finished by Conor & Shane to leave a half time score line of 3-8 to 1-9.

The second half was equally fast and physical with great play from both teams, the defenders on both side were on top. Oliver, Jamie & Cormac cleared ball to an overcrowed midfield and we struggled to get good ball into Rudi & Jack. Micheal & Finn were working very hard and got on the score board too. Shane had a few more points from frees to top up the score line but our opponents got a run and narrowed the margin to 4 points. We subbed in Darragh Delaney for Rudi & Eanna Lyons for the hard working Garry at midfield. With time nearly up we swapped a few more points and had a great save from Jack Hynes in goal. Into injury time, Kiltha Óg were awarded a 21 yard free that was bravely saved out for a 65. They again delivered the ball into the square hunting a goal to level the game but our defence stood brave & strong. We had to do it again from a second 65. Fair play to our hard working lads for holding out in a tight and physical second half of hurling to finish on a winning score line of 3-14 to 1-17.

Our next Match is Minor Football Championship away to St Vincent’s next Wednesday the 6th @ 7.30
