Club Notes July 9th.. - 14/07/2019
Under 21 Footballers & Minor Hurlers In Action..
Well it's really peak time for games at most levels. It's great to see so much activity in the Main Pitch as well as in Scannell's and Pynes Fields also. With all Club teams still in involved in County and Cork competitions it's a case of onwards and upwards as the Gaelic Games buzz is going well. Last week we were scheduled to play Junior Football Championship, Junior Hurling League as well as several under age games. For the coming few days it's the same as our Minor Hurling and Under 21 Football teams are both in Championship action.
Minor Hurling.
On this Friday night July 12th our Minor Hurling team are out in the Rebel Og Premier 2 Championship. It was back on April 24th we played the first round of this competition. At Delaneys pitch on that date we had a good win over Inniscarra. Friday night's opponents Valley Rovers also won their first round so the game on Friday night will be a big challenge. We lost to both Blackrock and Mallow in recent League games so we hope to show a bog improvement on Friday night. The game is on in Blarney at 7.30pm.
Under 21 Football.
We play Aghinagh from the Muskerry Division in the County Semi final on next Monday night July 15th. Back in the spring time we defeated Carrigtwohill, St. Catherines and Cobh to win the East Cork title. Shortly after that we travelled to Fermoy and defeated Ballycastle Gaels in the County Quarter Final. We've had a long wait since then. Crosshaven were to play Aghinagh but after several cancellations the Muskerry side eventually got a walk over. Our team Captain DJ Cahill is away in America so we will be up against it Monday night. No venue had been finalised at the time of writing. Best of luck lads in both the Minor and Under 21 games.
East Cork Junior B Football.
The Junior B footballers travelled the short distance to Glenville on Tuesday evening last to play Ballinacurra in the final game of the East Cork championship round robin series. With both sides qualified for the semi final stages before this game, it was played to determine positioning within the group - who would finish as Group winners and Group Runners Up. Whilst the game may have had little impact to the progress of either side in the championship, it was played in a competitive manner which is reflected in the final scoreline of 3-15 to 3-14 with Ballinacurra victorious on the night. The Rovers goals coming from Dylan, Conleith and Conor. Though we lost by a point it was a good display given the fact that from the Fr O Neills game we were missing Liam Forde, William Finnegan and Damien Buckley. This result means that the Rovers will be playing Glenville in the semi final while Aghada take on Ballinacurra in the other semi final. Glenville defeated Aghada in Rathcormac in the same night by 1 11 to 0 12. The team on the night was: Frank Hogan, John O’Sullivan, Tadhg O'Sullivan, Jordan Mannix, Tom Murray, Shane O’Connor, Stephen Pratt, Shane Walsh, Griffin Keeny O’Sullivan, Ben Hogan, Patrick O’Flynn, Conor Barry, Shane O’Flynn, Conleith Ryan, Dylan Browne, Kieran Kearney and Ruairi O'Sullivan.
Rebel Og Under 15 Premier 1 Hurling League.
We travelled to the north of cork city last Wednesday evening to play Na Piarsaigh in the u15 p1 hurling league. With the home team getting off to fast start scoring two goals in as many minutes and adding on five points our lads never recovered. We tacked on a few points but Na Piarsaigh never let us settle. The second half wasn't much better for the Rovers but in fairness the lads kept playing to the end losing on a scoreline of Na Piarsaigh 5-15 Bride Rovers 0-12. We have a month now to recover until our next game. The result just proves if you're not 'tuned in' at this level of hurling from the first minute it's hard to get back into the game and this is the result Panel Frank O Flynn, Cormac O Sullivan, Liam Collins, Denis Cashman, Adam Hynes, Conor Hazelwood, Nicky Kelleher Ronan O Connell, Cillian Tobin, Adam Hayes, David Barry, Cillian Barry, Ryan O Callaghan, Josh Ahern, Eldon O Conor, Ronan O Riordan, Ben Knox.

Rovers Under 14's Win Cup.
Bride Rovers hosted the Theresa Walsh U14 tournament for the third year, on Saturday 6th July in Pairc na Bride. The Tournament is held in the memory of Theresa Walsh of Ballinakilla, Bartlemy who died in 2016. Theresa played a remarkable role in our club during her all too short life. She was never a mentor or Officer but as a supporter, provider of transport and positive influence on a generation of young players Theresa was the very life and soul of our Club and just a great friend to so many. Her family continue her proud tradition of service to Bride Rovers. We were delighted to invite teams from Eire Og, Kiltha Og and Bishopstown to take part in the tournament. First game of the day was Bride Rovers versus Eire Og followed by Kiltha Og versus Bishopstown. Eire Og and Bishopstown played a final match for the Plate which Eire Og won. Bride Rovers and Kiltha Og then met in the final for the Cup. It was a very close game of hurling, point for point exchanged and it finished up level at full time. We then proceeded to play extra time, which also finished level. It was decided to play another period of extra time of 5 minutes a side to determine a winner. Fatigue at this stage was setting in fast. The home side pulled away at the finish in what was an extra exciting extra, extra time to win the Cup. The Under 14 management team would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the teams who turned up on the day and for their outstanding display of hurling and sportsmanship on the pitch. Brendan Walsh on behalf of the Walsh family presented Kiltha Og with their medals. He also presented the Bride Rovers players with their medals and the U14 captain on the day, Louie Roche, accepted the Cup on behalf of the Bride Rovers team. Brendan expressed how much the tournament meant to the Walsh family and how grateful they were to all the teams for providing such an amazing display of hurling for the spectators. It was wonderful to see so many people turn up on the day to support the tournament. Many thanks to all who helped prepare the pitch and clubhouse beforehand and to those who supplied sandwiches and baking and helped out with the provision of refreshments on the day. It was a brilliant hurling occasion. In our Club each year we have three Tournaments which honour special people who deserve to be remembered; the Tony Walsh Tournament, the Theresa Walsh Tournament and the Jerard Kenny Tournament.
Under 11 Hurling.
The u11's played Ballycastle in hurling last weekend in Pyne’s Pitch in what was the last of the Rebel Óg series before the summer break. Fifteen players togged out as part of the squad with players rotated through the 11 a-side match. After some fine hurling by both sides we emerged as winners. There will be no match this week but training will take place on Mondays and Thursdays as normal (no training on Saturday).

Junior Hurling.
We were billed to play Killeagh, away, last Thursday night in the East Cork Div 2 JHL. Unfortunately due to a tragic death in the Killeagh Club the game was called off. We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of the late Denis O Rourke of Ballykilty, Killeagh and his inlaws the Scully family who are steeped in Killeagh GAA. We also sympathise with Siobhan Cashman, a first cousin of the late Denis.
County JFC Game.
Last Sunday we hosted the quarter final of the County Junior C Football championship in Pairc na Bride. Araglen advanced to the Co Semi Final with a good win over Rochestown. The Rochestown Club is to be commended on it's determination to keep going in difficult circumstances. With no underage Club and surrounded by 'big' neighbours' like Douglas and Nemo rangers and Passage they struggle for player numbers. The late, great Pat McAuliffe- RTE Sports commentator was a great Rochestown clubman who is sorely missed. Pat died suddenly earlier this year. Araglen now meet St Johns in the Co JBCF semi Final. Araglen are also going well in the Hurling County with a great victory over Bantry lately. We wish the Araglen Carnival that starts this Friday night all the best.

Well done to Grange on their fine win in the County Junior B Football C.ship at the weekend.
Well Done Cork.
Well done to the Cork u 20 Hurlers who defeated Limerick last week on Pairc Ui Rinn and especially to Brian and Eoin Roche. By the time you read this Cork will have played Clare in the Munster semi final.
Cul Camp.
Preparations are being finalised for the annual Cul Camp which runs from Monday July 29th until Friday August 2nd. A total of 120 boys are signed up for what promises to be a great week of fun.
Sympathy.
Bride Rovers Club extends it's deepest sympathy to Paddy and Marjorie Barry on the unexpected death of their son Paddy. The Barry family are very involved in St Vincents, Blackrock and Cork GAA affairs. Paddy Snr was Cork goalie in 1966 and Captain in 1970 when Cork hurlers won the Senior All Ireland and of course our own Seanie Barry was a team-mate of Paddy's.

The newly appointed GAA Fixtures Calendar Review Task Force have commenced their work under the chair of Eddie O'Sullivan. As part of this process, submissions from the membership of the Association are welcome to be made and can be sent to calendarreview@gaa.ie. In addition to this, members are encouraged to take part in a survey on the Fixtures Calendar which can be found on www.gaa.ie
