Minor Hurlers in first Co. Championship Final since 1933...

Having lost out by a single point to Cobh in the Rebel Og East Region Minor A Hurling final just two weeks previously the luck of the Draw deemed the sides should meet again in the County Championship Semi -Final.  The day of the East Final in Rostellan the lads were devastated but with the runners up of the three Regions -East, North and West getting a second chance all was not lost. With a good performance against Bandon in trying conditions the previous week we travelled to Pairc Ui Cinneide in Killeagh on Saturday to face Cobh one more. After woeful rain in the afternoon the weather early on it cleared up and though soft conditions were soft a good game ensued.  We got off to a perfect start with points from Kieran Kearney and Conor Barry (free) . Two more frees from Conor took our tally to 4  with Cobh on 0 2. It was obvious even at this early stage that the team were really up for the game with Jordan and Paddy marshalling the defence very well. Conleith, the Roches and Cian were flying -indeed every player upped their play from the Rostellan game. Further points from  Cian (2), Brian Roche and Conor (3) saw us leading by six points -  0 10 to 0  4 coming up to half time. A free from Paddy O Flynn found Conor Barry and after weaving his way through the Cobh defence the green flag was waving, This was a great score at a vital time and so we led by  1 10 to 0 4 at the break. There was no wind advantage for either team so we faced into the second half determined to keep scoring and hurling well.  Cobh did get two early points to hint at a revival but then came a crucial score for us. After a great passing sequence of play involving five of his team mates Brian Roche scored a superb goal to put us 2 11to 0 6 ahead. Though Cobh add a goal we finished in style with John O Sullivan's point bringing our tally to 2 17 to Cobh's  1 7. It was great workmanlike performance where the team worked together very well as a unit. They played some fine hurling to earn a well-deserved victory.

Team and scorers; B. Hogan, R O Sullivan, J. Mannix, T. Murray, M. Quinn, P O Flynn, P O Leary, E. Roche, K Kearney 0 1 , C. Ryan , C. Hogan 0  4, G O Keeney , B. Roche- 1  1, S O Flynn, C. Barry 1 10  - 0  8 from  frees J O Sullivan 0 1 , Ml. Friel, Chris Coleman, Shaun Knox, Fergal Sheehan.

This win means we are into our first ever County Minor Hurling Championship Final since 1933 when we lost to Glen Rovers. Well done lads. The second semi-final is between Watergrasshill and Kilshannig. These two teams drew in the North league earlier in the year - the Hill are in North for Minor Hurling. When they met in the North Championship final the Hill won by 7 points. They must meet again now in the County Semi-final, a game that may take place this weekend.

Junior C Hurling.

The Junior C team had a useful workout against our Junior A team on Sunday. The A team were to play Youghal  in our last Division 2 East Cork JHL game but got a walkover so they played our third XV instead. Sars were to play Midleton last night (Wednesday) under lights and the winners of that game are to play us in the Junior C semi final. Our Div 2 team finished top of the Div 2 League Table with 17 points and will be promoted to Div 1 for 201`8. We will probably meet Sars in the Div 2 Final.

Cork GAA clubs Draw Launched.

At a well attended function last week in Pairc Ui Chaoimh the 2017/2018 Cork GAA members Draw was launched by Co Board Chairman Gerard Lane. It is a fantastic Draw which goes on for 12 months.  Under 12 Hurling Semi Final.

Bride Rovers travelled to Youghal last Sunday to play the hosts in the East Cork U12A league semi final.

Having drawn with Youghal earlier in the year another tight encounter was expected

Played in blustery conditions, Youghal started brightly and using the elements jumped into to an early lead. Cillian Barry and Ryan O'Callaghan raised white flags for Bride Rovers to get the score board moving and keep the lads within touching distance.

As the second half begun Youghal stretched their lead to five points, but the Rovers lads as ever dug in and battled their way back into the match with Cillian O'Sullivan pouncing for a goal to narrow the deficit, Youghal responded and again stretched their lead before Ronan O'Riordan scored Bride Rovers second goal of the night to pare back the lead. With fine hurling on display from both teams and plenty of courageous displays throughout the field the rovers lads brought Youghal's lead down to the minimum though points from Ryan O'Callaghan and Cillian Barry However as time expired and the final whistle sounded lady luck turned her back on the rovers lads and Youghal progressed to the final by the bare minimum. Final Score Youghal 1-10 Bride Rovers 2-06 The best of luck to Youghal in the final.
